Looking To Rev To 8500 But Can My Dsm Take It ?

Im looking to get a TMO STAGE 3 Chip put into my :dsm: ecu in the upcoming future..also going to put stronger valve springs retainers and all those goodies..might even port the head too...anyways i was wondering

can the stock 4g63 bottom end take 8500rpms??? :confused:

my whole bottom end should be solid...ive got ARP everything down there and the best bearings :thumb:

i need answers asap !! thanks !!! :thumb:

Why do you want to run it to 8500 rpm? According to your profile, you dont have a large enough turbo or cylinder head to make use of those rpm's. I am also willing to bet the crower cams will also fall off around76-7800 rpm. Not trying to be a jackass but you will need alot more upgrades before you have any use for an 8000rpm pull. Just look at my profile and I only turn mine to 7500-7600. Any more and my stock intake manifold becomes a major restriction.
 
Why dont you get you car setup to run the way you want it and take it to the dyno. They will give you a graph of you power band. Once you have that then you can decide were to shift. I could care less if you have a 8 billion trim with forged muffler bearing, if you are pulling past the power band you will not go faster. So many people want to rev high and they never give a decent reason. These leads the rest of us to believe that you just want to do it so that you can say you are doing it. Kinda like everyone and there fully forged 2.4's that run mid 13's. You also need to look at your tranny. Most stock DSM trannies dotn like to rev and shift.

i vote for this thread to be closed before it gets uglier then it already has...

as for the thread starter.. if you want to know when to shift, as it was suggested to you earlier, take your car to a dyno and look at your power curve. if you're still making power above redline (~7,500rpm) then and only then should you worry about taking the necessary steps toward having an engine that would safely rev past the 8k mark. until then, i wouldn't even worry about it. just worry about the smaller things first like figuring out what setup you want and tuning it.
 
the reason i want to rev to 8500 rpms is because i wanna make power up there...i plan on getting my tranny rebuilt and running a much larger turbo with a dnp equal length manifold w/ 40mm wastegate, race head, intake manifold, etc etc......i plan on making this DSM fast from 0-8500 rpms :dsm:
 
Well, if you want a big turbo that can make power at 8500 then you won't be making power from 0-8500. Big turbos don't make low end power.

Your gonna need some help down there.

So then like most people, you just want to be able to say you pull it that far. Do you know what tye of turbo you are going to use, what about cams, retainers, who is going to build your tranny?

It just seems redicules to spend all that money just to be able to do that. You could be just as fast and you motor will lost longer if you have a decent setup that will pull to 7500.

i would think that a single turbo setup pulling "hard" from 0-8.5k is impossible, unless your talking about a hard pull for a civic... but as far as these cars are concerned, hard wont happen from 0-8.5k....nor will it matter, once you get up to, assuming you do, 8.5k and shift, you wont be at 0, that and not many cars pull at all under 1k... i know my car doesnt idle at 0...LOL... but i know what your talking about....
 
all of you guys are misunderstanding what i said...i said i plan on making my car fast from 0-8500rpms...there is a thing called torque..so when i build my tranny i will drop the clutch at 6k rpms and be fast off the line...damn
 
WTF He asked a couple easy 'yes or no' type questions (mostly)! Everybody's flamin and hatin!! :mad: But, yes, you can rev past 8000, but I dont know about with stock internals, i havent heard or read of anybody on here consistently reving past 7500 with stock bottom end. Im in the same boat as you, thats why I responded the way I did. I too plan on making as much torque as possible uptop, I looked at lots of 16g dyno pulls, and most of them, the torque falls flat on its face after 4000rpm! I want my torque to pull and not fall off till 7000rpm, and plus, you rev higher with a large turbo, he knows his car wont make power under 4000rpm without boost, dont insult people's intelligence by correcting and changing his statement ROFL I woudnt be spending cash JUST to be able to rev high, there IS a reason, lots of larger turbos (as most of you know) can pull past 7000rpm. :boring:

We know what torque is, but do you. You realize that tourqe at higher RPM is called HP. If you look at the calculation for HP you would see this. if you want good answers and people to take you seriously then post like this is the wrong way to go about it. Just dropping the clutch on your car is in no way the best to launch.

Yeah, im gonna make 'a ton' of torque 'up top'... :shhh: I wasnt directing anything at you specefically. :barf: I already left feedback about those who's posts i felt were useless, and yours wasnt one of them :toobad: I was on topic, and i do listen to advice. Im not gonna start the little skirmishes on here like some of the people do, I state my goals, then figure out how to go about it. High rpm operation includes timing control, fuel management, intake manifold design, valve/head work, and cam timing. Im sure there's more, but when i need to know, i'll research it, and i wont just slap on a 9000rpm rev limiter and have fun either. PM me with any FURTHER DISCUSSIONS, please :)
 
i wouldnt reccomend reving that high using a belt for timing purposes. i would only trust a timing chain for an engine to rev that high.

Most bikes will rev to above 10K with no problem. In fact any motor can be built to rev that high but it cost alot of money to make sure you have the valvetrain components to do so. Most people dont realize how hard on parts it is to rev that high, but they like to say big numbers like 8500, so they do it. If I could make the same amount of power 1k lower than the next guy I would do it, but like you said to each there own.
