Looking to buy, But for how much?

Hey all, Preferably I am looking to buy a- 99 GSX AWD Eclipse.
I have Ten Grand to spend off hand and i plan to Tune this car.

So my question is how much should i spend on the car.
Should I get a high mileage car for cheap and have the engine rebuilt.
Should spend alot and not mess with the engine.

I read the newbies tuner guide but it does not mean it is the
best way to go about tuning the car.

I spent 12 on my 98gsx w/ 45k on it. Not worth it. What if my engine walks at 55k i'm screwed. These cars are not reliable at 50k -150k. I would buy 150+ then swap a built 6 bolt in can't go wrong there.

6 Bolt you mean 1gen engine?


I was actually considering getting the block restored - honed, resurfaced, ect with forged pistons strong racing rods.

And getting the 2Gen head made over into a racing head with work on the valves
and all that good stuff.

So why is it that everyone just puts 1Gen block and head
on there 2Gens?

Whats wrong with the 2Gen Motor?

six bolt blocks have strong rods, oil squrters under the pistons and most importantly dont get crankwalk(trust bearing failure) Six bolt can handle 450hp to the wheels with stock bottom end even with high mileage. You can use either cylinder head and only need a few parts other than the block. Do a search on the thrust bearing failure seven bolts get and you wont touch one with a 10ft pole. Buy a 2g with a blown motor for 3500 or so and use the rest of the money mo mods, just my .02
