Looking to buy a Evo 3 16G

Hello,

I'm getting my teeth sunk into DSMs and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I know the warnings about buying items from Ebay, but a smart buyer is still a responsible buyer.

So I'm looking for an Evo 3 16G turbo to replace my stock 2G turbo. My goal is a Daily Driver with 350 HP. I know I will eventually need the supporting MODs to back up the turbo, but I will be buying parts later this month.

I'm in the process of maintenance and I do have a dead turbo (Bad oil seals). I found a turbo on ebay, claiming to be an Evo 3 16G ported.

Can someone take a look at this turbo and tell me if it matches what an Evo 3 16G should be? Is this a decent buy or should I steer clear? I'm not worried about the possibility of it being a knock off, but I do just want to know if it matches up to what a 16G Evo 3 should be.

Please advise me.

thats a replica, it will come apart and shoot through your engine ruining it. steer clear.

Yes that is a knockoff, if you would have done even the most minuet of searches you would understand how to identify a mhi turbo. Hint: If it says "Hey im a evo 3 16g" on the plate... Its prob not a genuine turbo

Easiest way to tell, is through the serial number on the housing which should be 49178-01470

I feel like the luckiest guy to buy a genuine mhi evo 3 for a 150 bucks and rebuilt! I just got it in yesterday and installed it today. Hell yea .

The signs I go by are:

Adjustable wastegate
Anywhere that says TURBOCHARGER on it
Cheesy stamping on the cover

Search for it man! But like the guy above me said. Check for the wastegate, the shape of the housing and the old ebay evo 16g stamp on the housing. If you see an mhi 16g but you are unsure if its the real deal, do what I did. I messaged them for pictures to be sure it wasnt a scam and was the real deal. and guess what? it was! ;-)

...although those turbine housings are looking better and better these days! I remember a lot of people complaining the bolt holes weren't drilled in the right places, but here lately I've been seeing some decent chinese turbines that actually work well.
