looking for stock 420 parts

so me and my cousin took out the engine to his GS cause of a mean clicking at all rpm. i tore the head off and found his piston tops basically caked in oil. so tuned it over and removed pan and found metal shavings. then popped off the piston and rods and found the rod bearings all gouged up.

so id like to get new pistons and rings, and a new set of rod bearings. so far ive looked everywhere online and cant find anything. he wants STOCK parts, no stroker, no higher comp, just straight up stock compression new parts. i cant find anything but stroker kits and low comp pistons, and i cant find anything to do with rebuilds for the 420a.

does anyone have any sites for stock rebuild parts i can order off of. the closest mitsu dealer is a good 45 min away and i know they dont lube you up before they rape you. any help would be much appreciated.
 
try howellautomotive.com,or a local machine shop might be able to get them for you.if it was up to me and you were'nt gona be boostin,i would raise up the compression a litle bit to help get alittle more umpf out of our little 420a's
 
Yeah guy, you need to convince your cousin to go with the higher end stuff, Being that his car is older anyways the engine will be a lot stronger. Throw in some low compression pistions if he thinks he might go turbo, or higher compression pistions if he wants to stay N/A. If he's planning on selling the car anytime soon, then yeah stock would be adequete and cost effective.
Shoot if my pistons went bad, I'd jump all over a set of higher grade pistions. But thats not for everyone, and money doesn't grow on trees either.
 
nah hes not into to go fast(says if it was any faster hed kill himself). then again hes not into looking good either(fading paint, messed up interior, stock rims). i think hes just not into cars LOL.

and right now his budget is around 700 bucks, so anything better than stock is basically pushing it. if i were him i would go high comp(10.5) howell stroker kit with some nitrous, a nice daily driver(like he wants) with some kick when need be. but thats me not him.

anyone think napa will have what i need? since its a 420 i guess i could try dodge too if it comes to it.

well heres a little update on this whole thing.

after looking on that howell site, his dad decided to give him the money to do the top end and bottom end howell rebuild kits. hes getting the 8.5 comp pistons with the extreme eagle rods. he says by the time we get everything in he will have 2500 saved up and he is going to get the star stage 2 kit.

i have a question though, how would i go about tuning the n/t. the star kit comes with a vortech fmu which i have no idea how that tunes it, i would only assume its just gonna raise fuel pressure with rpm/boost and add craploads of fuel. since hell be running more boost than the star kit says(around 15-18psi) i dont think the FMU will be able to handle it. how do most of you n/ters tune fuel when you go turbo? i talked to one guy and he swapped a gst ecu in so he can run pocketlogger.

First of all, the ECU story is bullshit. Not possible. PocketLogger comes in an OBDII version for the 2GNTs. We can't use a Mitsu ECU.
Second, most turbo 2GNTers use either the FMU (Star) or the SFMU (HRC) to, as you said, dump fuel in during boost. There are "missing links" and voltage clamps to keep our ECUs from seeing boost to the MAP sensor (All your MAF information is useless here). However, the latest trend that is growing super fast is the Megasquirt fuel and spark computer. It's almost the only thing I talk about over here anymore, since so many of the tuning questions can be answered with this thing. Rather than say it all over again, search for my screen name in this forum for the last week and you should find plenty of info. We've gone round and round with this one. Basically, your friend will be able to idle on 780cc injectors, have total fuel and spark control, use a 1:1 FPR, and data log for about $350. Hard to beat that.

I saw a really good deal on eBay. A while ago. Keep looking on there, or call your dealer. ModernPerformance also has good deals on internals, that where I got mine.

except for a small detail. nothing gets installed without me. oh and its gonna be a worthless build if he makes the same mistake twice and doesnt check his oil more than once a year.

oh and the gst ecu thing, the guy rewired EVERYTHING to the new ecu.
 
just read up on the MSnS and that sounds badass. ill prolly have him get that too but after we get the motor back together and the turbo on im only gonna give him 7psi for the first 500 miles. after that maybe 15psi. if he wants to go higher ill make him get the MSnS so i can tune it better. i need to do more homework first. id rather do just pocketlogger+safc to keep it simple but if i decide that MSnS is better ill bring it up to him.

so let me get this strait... he ####s up his engine by not checking his oil for over a year, and his dad buys him all knew forged internals??? man i wish my dad would do that... my dad would say "you have modified that car so much that its your own fault and im not paying for it." if he does that again please deliver a nice slap in the face for me.

just so you know he is going to have to get new injectors to run pretty much anything over 8psi if he wants to be safe. and dont waste the money on a s-afc, it does 1/4 of what the MSnS does and is the same price. i really wish i would have known about it before i got my S-AFC... the s-afc still has worked nice for me but i will be replacing it eventually with the MSnS.

last thing i can suggest is that while the engine is out, why not pull the tranny apart and drop in an LSD. if he cant afford a quaiff then maybe just drop in a phantom grip. ive heard mixed reviews about it but mostly good ones, only the occasional horror story. besides he doesnt want all that power going to only one wheel now does he? can you say traction problem? ;)
 
^^i also brought up the lsd insert, he already has plans of getting a better clutch, and ive heard that sbr lsd inserts have held up to multiple 500hp launches.

right now with the howell master 420 rebuild kit(top end and bottom end) and the star stage 2 kit, along with some "stage 2 clutch" he found, along with a 2gb front bumper and projectors, and paint, were looking at 5,500.

well lets see. when we first started he was under the influence of a bitchy GF of 2 years to get it back on the road. during the breakdown they broke up and now he is single and realized that the time he was with the GF he neglected his baby, and now wants to put some money into it to make her how he originally wanted, before he got caught up in the GF drama.

thats what happened to me! LOL when i started getting serious with this girl, i completely forgot about my baby. now that that girl is gone, i realized how much i missed working on her(the car ;) ). so i putting money into her again LOL

hah,you guys got it good.i'm married,and i just sold my dizzm to be able to move crosscountry.now im in cali and there's all kinds of twisties and mountain roads.i'm having withdrawls,convultions,nostalgia,i look at every dsm in the street like it was the last one.i'm on tuners 55 times a day and watch every vidieo that comes out in the hangout.enjoy your dizzms people.it's ok,next objective =gs-t/gsx. :thumb:

Sorry. Monday was the 2yr wedding anniversary. Got to get her served the divorce papers here soon. LOL.
 
my boyfriend or should i say ex probably soon...broke my antenna off, wrecked my car twice now... the last time he did he just f*d up the front bumper, which i have a blitz kit...yeah i need a new one now, he threw my car in park... not once not twice but three times... lets just say i f*d him up...and made him walk home...he put my muffler on... yeah the next day it fell off... and he tells me he knows whats up with cars... my eclipse was my *dream car* when i first got it... not a scratch on it... washed it at least twice a week rinsed it off if it got dirty... drove it easy and also had oil changes religiously... until he came along... i've had the car for about 3 yrs now... it's a 99 gs oz edition and now it's in the worse condition i've ever had a car in... and i partly know it is my fault to for putting up with it... and you would think i'd be the one who didn't care about cars... i love my car... maybe sometimes more then him thats why he does it... he's told me haha
