hey guys im new to the forum. just have a quick question on buying a 1g dsm. what would be some things to look out for on one? im looking at a 1993 GSX that is stock as far as i know. the guy wants 1200 for it. the reason being the low price is bc i has some body damage on the driverside on the lower door and a little bit on the lower rear quater panel. he said he has the passenger fend off right now fixing it. i would just like to know of some things i should look out for before buying one. ive wanted one for about a year now. just never got one cause of funding(no job) but this one came across and looks like a decent deal. any input greatly appreciated! THANKS!

everything such as maintenance records parts reciepts so many things to look at, again you may be buying a headache, ask a lot of questions.again it could be a project.

imo the only thing that matters is the body everything else can be fixed/replaced easily. If you could deal with the dents the only other thing to check for would be rust.

You dont want to start putting money into a rusty car unless your gonna do a full restore.

edit*

The pics didnt show up the first time for some reason, that car looks clean!!!

I would just underneath the car for bad rust, but that car looks like it was taken car of.

i work in a shop and do a lot of body work so im not to afraid of that.. any mechanical things to look out for?

besides the clear coat comming off and the dents it looks like a super clean car.. thats why im kinda worred cause of the price.. something else could be wrong with it. he said the alignment is also off and he'd tow it to me if id like or i can drive it..

Your buying a car for 1200$, thats a steal.......people spend that kind of money for shells, your getting a complete running car.

If you want to be safe, do a compressioin test and replace the t-belt/waterpump/balanceshaft delete after you buy it.

actually 1000 with some stereo stuff.. most are pretty cheap in nebraska

thanks for the tips ill take my compression test gauge with me and give the car a real good look over

Look for any obvious leaks around the engine area and the bottom of the car. Ask the owner if you can take it for a test drive then listen for any unusual noise, feel if the car pulls strong, and if the turbo boosts without whining. The car does look clean other than paint and for 1200 bucks not a bad deal. Good luck.

even if the car does have problems ill just end up fixing them. but if i do find some ill use them to negociate price some more

Make sure to ask when the timing belt and water pump was done, and if he has receipts for the work or parts..

Otherwise.Jump on it..

Also you didn't say anything about milage..What is the milage?

Looks good. Ive seen people in my area ask that much for 2.0 nt automatjcs. Just check for obvious leaks, weird noices, etc etc. And if you can just ask a buddy that knows about cars as well go with you. Theres something you may miss and he may see. But looks clean to me. Good luck. :)

Its much better with being bone stock and maybe have exhuast than have a whole bunch of stuff dont to it. It does look stock except it looked like it had exhuast. So you should be in the clear.

yeah im taking 2 of my buddies to go look at it with me. and it has 120xxx miles on it

id rather have something stock then mod it to my tastes. knowing the work is done by me is a lot more reassuring to me then knowing anybody could have done it and not have known what they were doing.
