I currently have an 04 evo 8 which is my daily driver and track car. I dont like taking it to the track all the time because it's my baby and im scared of it getting hurt, so i was looking at getting a DSM to turn into a track car, mainly because they have the same engine as the evo and they can withstand tons of power. I have mainly been looking at 1g dsm's because they're cheaper. I am hoping to get one for under 4 grand. What should i look for when buying a used eclipse or talon? Which is better, 1g or 2g? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Which is better, 1g or 2g?

Dang, put your flamesuit on...JP. 2g's are known for crankwalk after 140k miles. Your not gonna find many dsm w/low miles so goodluck w/that. 2g's also require some kits when it comes to fitting bov's, turbos, etc. 1g's on the other hand don't. I don't know, this discussion can go on and on. But you wanted to hear our opinions so I'd say go w/the 2g's, they look better IMO but it's for the track so I'd still say 2g! No offense to any 1g's out there.. to each their own right?

Like he said, you will find bias between owners of the different generations. However, its been said before so I'll say it again...it seems like the first generation is more speed/performance orientated, whereas the 2g is about doing both, looking pretty and going fast. If you buy a 1g, remember that you will be buying at least a 10 year old car, probably older. There are 1g's out there with low miles and unabused, and I'd say thats your best bet. Make sure you get AWD. When looking at a DSM, ask about the timing belt, if the fluids were changed regularly, and if any recalls have been done. Also check the turbo for shaft play, check the brakes/rotors, check for any smoke, and if you can, do a compression test. Most of these cars have had a rough life simply because they were quick out of the factory, and been abused. If you see any signs of abuse, I'd back out because that will give you more problems than necessary. I've pretty much covered it, ask away if you have any questions. :thumb:
