Well I was looking around and found a Grey GST around my area. The guy that is selling it has his price listed at $7500. It has 102k Miles. I'm wondering would it be even worth it to look at it? I know I could probably bring down the price, but what do you guys think? The car is totally stock, and is adult driven, One owner. It's really hard to find a decent car around here, so let me know! Thanks guys.

a year would be nice to know.
stick ? auto ? maintainance records ?
if its a 95 then its pretty damn pricey.
if its a 99 ? great deal !

Thanks for the replys guys, Im going to go check out the car tomorrow. Wish me luck!
91TalonTSi_53 Your from Minnesota to eh? Where abouts? And are you on DSMstyle? Thanks everyone!

Good pickup I say if you can get it down by about $500-$1000.
Also check out our hangout after you get the vin because someone has a login that there offering FREE CARFAX reports on. Definately get one of those if at all possible.

:)

Have the current owner take you for a ride, "because you just want be able to listen for things without being distracted". After a few blocks, ask him how it does if he opens it up.

You'll see how the car's been treated by this owner.

Always a smart thing to do. Ive been able to tell a great deal from the owner driving the car.

Also higher mileage on a DSM is either a hit or miss thing. Can you take the opportunity to do a compression test? My 91 TSi awd has 150,000 miles on it, and still reads near perfect compression across the board. Ive got TONS more life from my car.

couldn't you just replace the motor when it dies???

or replace the pistons and rods and whatever other parts to keep it running like new???

Not worth it. First replacing an engine, unless you can do it yourself, it going to cost you a lot. Even if you get the motor cheap, it gonna cost around $600 to swap it in.

Replace pistons and rods is basically a rebuild, you may get a rebuild kit for $500, but the least you going to spend on the labor for a rebuild is 1000.

You might as well buy a car with a blown motor if you know your going to have to replace the motor down the road, saves you money.

If they car was dirt cheap, it would be a different story. But in this case, it's not.

Well rebuilding a motor is also a good oppurtunity to build it up more. Forged pistons/rods, ARP studs, metal head gasket etc. If youre going to spend the money may as well right? :)

If awd is an option you are looking for, then buy a high mileage GSX/TSI AWD. You cna find a 95-96 or maybe even a 97-99 for that price with high mileage.

If you are not worried about it, then take a look in the classified ads. There are plenty of FWD cars that have been well taken care of by us DSM'ers. Not saying this one is not, but atleast you can do a search with the guys on the classifieds and maybe take a peek at how they treated their cars.
