Ok guys here's whats up. I'm gettin rid of my Subaru WRX to get something a little more economical(insurance, gas mileage, $-hp ratio, etc). I probalby gonna get some non turbo good on gas mileage fwd car for a daily driver. Maybe another eclipse, i owned a 3g but always liked the 2gnt's for overal looks and performance for what it is. I don't want a honda, not because they're bad cars(they're actually probably the best designed cars IMO). I just like to be different, and an eclipse in my area is different. The problem is the subaru world has spoiled me and now i want something awd and turbocharged that isn't going to kill me on insurance like the subie did.

I have my sights set on a 91 talon tsi awd. It's mostly going to be a weekend/track car. I'm looking to push around 350-400awhp. I'm not much into drag racing, more of a road course guy but thats not to say it's never going to see the drag strip. I know there's probably a ton of posts on this forum for common problems with the 1g's. I know the basic pro's and con's. Just wondering what it takes for these cars to push 350awhp or so. I'm probably going to start out with the basic stuff
-dp
-some sort of engine management(what are some good choices)
-i know of dsmlink but idk what else there is out there for dsm's
-3" or so exhaust
and now here's where you tell me what some good street, road race setups are?
I already looked at the basic road race setups i want to know what YOUR setups are because it's good to hear opinions.

I'm a compatent mechanic even though i'm going to be a diesel tech by trade. i know my way around a car. I'm also pretty competent in tuning, I've become extremenly proficient using cobb's street tuner(well it's access tuner for the v2) so any basic tuning advice is also greatly appreciated.

And just because everyone's going to ask...
-I'm getting rid of the scooby becuase i'm 19 and insurance sucks, not to mention i'm full time student and really can't afford the build i wanted for it. 10k gets you around 400hp and track ready on the subaru. i hope i can get the talon there cheaper.

questions...comments...concerns...?
thanks in advance and sorry of the suuuuuuuuper long post.

I see you live in blairsville...my brother owns a house up there im moving in in less then a month..

Ok since your a cross kinda guy. Stick with a spooler... evo316g good for 30psi all day. Engine management? Ecmlink v3 no doubt. Ill pm you my number because i know how small blairsville is =D

and i serioulsy just caught the fact that i spelled "advice" wrong in the title...awesome...first post and i'm already wearing a special helmet:toobad:

dont worry man the point of this forum is not to work on spelling but rather to help one another dsm enthusiasts. No track car is cheap to build or mantain but dsm's are definetly one of the cheapest.

No an e3 16g will not hold 30 pounds all day are you serious.... The turbo stops efficiency at like 22 lbs. That is a ridiculous statement. It say a 35r or something that can make some serious power

Well the talon i'm looking at supposedly has a 60 trim on it right now but then again i don't really care what it has on it or whats been done to it because it's getting ripped down and built my way. Thats the only way that i'll actually trust the car on the track. Not sure what kind of EM they're running either. It's getting a full rebuild either way. I do know the frame and body panels are spotless, and the interior is immaculate.

What are some good turbo's for spool and around 350-400awhp?

So, what your saying is no one has made 450+hp or hit a 10sec slip on a 16g...? You do not need a 35r to make 350-400 horsepower! The e316g is fine, and yes it will hold 30 psi down the track.

30psi on a 16g is only possible with meth injection or some other injection. I wish i had an efficiency chart for it. I mean a fp 50 trim stops making efficient power at like 30 lbs. Why would a smaller turbo do the same?? Anyways i would diffidently go with a holset or a dual ball bearing garret. Something that will have longevity at the psi you want. 30 psi will kill that 16g.

Answer to that question. Ya people have... How many people have?... And it is more of a statement for them to do it. It just shows how good of a tuner they are. And the 16gs they use are ported to the extreme. It is not just a 16g.

I hate advice like this,
Normal everyday people think they can strap a E316G to their car and run 10's.

98% of the time you WONT.

You wont even run mid or low 11's.
You wont get past 350whp.

SOME people have done it, Hell maybe alot of people have done it.

But the ratio of have vs have nots is appx 5%vs95%.

To the OP,
With Race Gas / Meth / E85 30+ LBS of boost Possible Injection, Bare stripped car and 22* peek degrees of timing, a E316G may hit thoes goals. ( and some good tuning!)

But for you and the rest of the world that are looking for 400whp you should start to look into another turbo.

Holset 35HX is cheap, spools 25LBS around 3600 and will make your 400 WHP reliable.

FYI a T25 went into the low 10's.

But that dosn't make that turbo a realistic turbo to hit 10's w/o a 250shot of juice and a stripped FWD car.

Well im around 350fwhp...20 psi... 93 octane...0 counts of knock...safc 2
8.5 comp...1.6 head

I dont want to argue what one or a handfull of people make on what. And FWD vs AWD could be a additional 10% drivetrain loss.

Im also not saying that the OP CANT make what ever he wants to make with a 14b 16g Hell T25.

If someone were to ask for advice, I would give them the numbers.

So here it is.

To the OP.

Joe B ran a 10sec time slip on a FWD 14B powered car.
There have been a handull of E316G 10 second cars.
There is a T25 with a 250 shot running in the 10's.

Then there are the other couple of thousand E316G cars that will be happy if they see low 12's and 320awhp.

You CAN do it,
MOST DONT.

Look at it this way.

John Shep runs a 42r and has made 7.7 passes.

There are a good 20 - 30 other 42r's on cars that cant get into the mid 8's.
