I've done the search on here and googled it and cant find where to get the OBD1 cable to hook up to my Toshiba laptop. All the ones I can find are for OBD1 to DB9 for a Palm Pilot but I'm wanting to use TunerPro RT on my laptop. So where can i find one?

Is there anywhere to find the chips needed for ECMLink since I can find the cable for that real easy and already have the program on my laptop?

There's more to DSMLink than just a chip inside your ECU. You can find them at many vendors or directly from ECMTuning. ECMTuning, Inc.

While they make the client side software for your PC available for free the software and hardware that goes inside your ECU isn't.

EvoScan makes a USB based OBD1 cable that works for logging. Although the price is kind of high in my opinion.

Another option is to make your own USB based cable, which is what I did. The process, and components necessary to do so can be seen in thread in the link below.

I know ECMLink is more then just a chip, I was just wondering if anymore knew where to get just the chip that comes in the package.

You cant just get the chip anywhere. Its a special flash memory chip. You can get a 27SF512 or a 27SF256 and get a EEPROM burner from Moates to burn ## own chips. But if ## going that route the EEPROM emulator is the best route to go

Im still planning on using tunerpro to log but can i use ecmlink to log without having the chip(i know i can modify or tune the car until i get the kit)

I don't think ECMTuning ever released the version of the V3 client software that would talk to and log the factory ECU. At one time Tom was looking into plugable protocol modules and a factory OBD1 module was the proof of concept.

Do you have ostrich? Because you wont be able to use tunerpro with out it.

Like this:
Ostrich 2.0 : The New Breed

If your thinking about running tp, you could always use Jackal as well. Its a bit easier to get started then tp and has a built in logger that can be used on its own.

Its only $20 and when your ready to start tuning you will already have everything you need.

DS-MAP - Index

If you have an older laptop you can use the diy logger cable with out having to buy the keyspan. But if you need usb you can purchase the link cable and use it with Jackal with no problems.

You can log with tp with out having a ostrich. It just really sucks. You could get the palm logger. I ran that well before i had anything done to my car.

I greatly prefer the logger in TunerPro over MMCd, it's much easier to see/read and you can modify the sensors, as well as adding custom data points. Admittedly it's a little clunky to get used to, but it's FREE and POWERFUL- I'll deal with the learning curve ;)

And you do not need Ostrich to log, only to tune/edit the ECU. Also Jackal is a lot more than $20 to be able to use, yes the software is $20 but you also need the sensors, wiring, and intake/intercooler piping to run speed density.

Yes i should have mentioned that i meant to tune with tp you will need ostrich. But to log with Jackal you do not need anything other then a logging cable. You can use the logger separately from the tuner.

I used a $18 intake pipe and welded the iat on the stock tb elbow. Super simple set up.

im def goin with ecmlink for tuning just need something to monitor and log for now so i think tunerpro will be fine
