DIY Logging Cable

Does anyone know of a good site to show how to make one for a laptop? I found this http://www.fascinationsoftware.com/FS/html/DSM_DataCable.html but the parts numbers dont match up anymore and he doesnt really explain what the part is. I don't want to pay 70 dollars for something I can make for 10.

it's easy. The first diagram posted by Steve is for the PC cable, on the second page is the diagram for a palm. All the details are discussed in the thread.

one more thing: That thread shows the passive cable. The first link in Defiant's post is the active cable. I'd try the passive cable first since it's very easy, but if it doesn't work, the active cable will do the trick.
