I have heard that when people get their center diff welded this is a common mod and is said to act somewhat like a lightened flywheel by removing rotating mass. Has anyone ever done this and if so did you car actualy rev faster like it does when you have a lightened flywheel. Cause I already have a luightened flywheel and if this could make it rev even faster I would def look into getting it done at the same time as my center diff.

A welded center diff is different from a "lightened" VC. Here's how you weld the center diff. You're only eliminating the internal spider gears and block which is small and close to the center of rotation so the increased rev potential is very small. The big heavy part is the center diff case and that stays the same.

You could also cut the VC or install a VC Eliminator but again you're only saving a small amount and it's right on the center of rotation. I doubt you'd feel a difference, but any rotating mass saved is good.

I know that the two are totaly diffrent the reason I asked about the coupler is it's a common mod to do when you weld your center diff. Sounds like the roating mass saved isn't really that much of a gain but i still plan on doing both even though a welded diff on a daily driver is frowned upon.

By whom???? I've been daily driving mine for 6 or 7 years now. No problem. I probably put 80K on it.

If your center diff is in good shape try just the VC Eliminator first. It's removable so you can go back to an open diff if you'd like. Once you weld your diff it's permanent and can't be reversed unless you replace it.

I have just been reading up and it seems there a descent amount of people who are against putting it on dd's but there also plenty of guys like you who say they have been doing it for a while with no or little ill effects. I'm not a cry baby so the wheels hopping nad takin a couple extra seconds to park in tight spots will not bother me as much as really good 60 ft times :rocks: I her what your saying but i'm buying a welded diff and lightend viscous coupler so if i want to go back to stock i will have my stuff to just put back on.
