Princeton,
I am fixing my valve tix by taking out the lifters or the auto valve lash adjusters. I have the valves cover off, the engine is at top dead center and I am on 3# cylinder. I got instructions off the net, now with either a tool or a standard screw driver press down on the valve and remove the rocker arm then remove the lifter. Which then I will clean out.
The question is where do I push down, The valve has the spring around is and the metal cap on top of that( forget the name of that) where do I push down with out damaging anything, I will probably have to push a bit so I do not want to damage anything. please help?

IMO extended Lifter Tick at startup is a good clue that you may have impending B/S Bearing failure - The B/S Bearings & hence the BSE Kit affects Oil Pressure & Oil Pressure has FAR more to do with Lifter Tick than the KIND of Oil being "pressured".

I have a 1990 6-bolt motor the taps loud when it gets warm I pretty shure it my lifters changed oil cut open the old filter it was clean, so as far as getting new ones will the 3g lifters work in my motor or get 2g lifters, also is the 3g lifters out of 2000 eclipse, thanks for the help.

Okay. New rule. Let's stop calling them 3g lifters. They're revised lifters, having nothing to do with 3g eclipses. Yes, they'll fit.

So were the ones the preceeded them and the ones before that. If we are going to make new rules about what to call things how about we start with lash adjusters and rocker covers instead of lifters and valve covers?

Last friday I was replacing my plug wires and 3 out of 4 had oil on them. I had always wondered my oil level would be low without any leaks exteranl anyways. Before my replacing the spark plug tube seals I had lifter tick all the time and now that I will the spark plug tube seals I have on problems with the tick now. So pretty much what I am saying is that for everyone to check the seals. I have the 4g64 and this sooo far so fixed the tick problem and it has been cold over here in the mornings so check it and get with me in a few weeks.

Replacing your lifters with the new revised ones is very cheap and easy to change without removing cams. I got mine off e-bay from an engine builder top-line lifters for 79.00 shipped took me about an hour in a half. You just pry the rocker arm of the lifter. mine have been quite eversence

I don't understand how changing your spark plug tube seals could stop your lifters from ticking

I don't either but I was sharing to all dsmers my problem and a possible solution to the tick problem. This was done on my 4G64 and don't know it it will work on 420As or 4G63T's. They was bad and inturn I replaced them and since then I have not heard any ticking on cold starts at all and my oil level has stayed the same.

First off, I bought my car about 6 months ago. The car worked "fine" and was completely stock. After a month or two of driving, I noticed ticking under the hood. After doing research on DSMTUNERS, I diagnosed it as lifter noise. Another month goes by, and I notice engine knock on my data logger, my knock sensor is good and it was under partial throttle situations. Without hesitation, I ordered up revised 3g lifters from a reputable eBay vendor to install. I didn't have any time to install them once I got them, so as my problems got worse and my car started pulling HUGE timing retard I said enough is enough, its time to install these to see if my problem goes away.

After 6 beers, 2 hours and a few cigarettes the new revised 3g lifters were installed. I must say, it wouldn't be easy for a novice, but patience is the day. I would highly recommend having two people to do the job, so once person can compress the lifter while the rocker is put back into place, it will cut the install time in 1/3. Cylinder #4, outer exhaust lifter was by far the most hard lifter to put the rocker back into place. The rocker kept slipping off and dropping deeper into the head, without the use of a magnet on the end of a copper rod, it would have been very frustrating to dig out the rocker from the depths of the head.

Conclusion: NO MORE PHANTOM KNOCK! No lifter noise! Much more smooth power band, and drivability is back to being like it *should*.

For $80 shipped on the lifters, 2 hour install, and an oil change... total worth the effort!

Thanks for reading post,

c4 :D

I just did cams yesterday, kinda regret not upgrading to the revised lifters but my ticking is coming from the back of the intake manifold.
Good job.

I purchased them from " engnbldr" on eBay. "engnbldr" has 10k+ feedback @ 100%. I highly recommend this seller, I received my lifters 2 days after I ordered them.

I have a 95 gst and my lifters used to only tick when cold but know its louder and it ticks all the time so im going to buy the 3rd gen lifters. I'm assuming i have the 2nd revision know being that its a 95.I had a 94 gst prior to owning my 95 gst and for my 94 i purchased some revised lifters from dsm motorsports and when i received them i tried inserting the paperclip and they would not do anything so im not sure if those would be good to use in my 95. Maybe they sold me some used ones im not sure. I have a couple of other questions

1.when i buy the 3rd gen lifter does it need to be primed with diesel fuel or can they be installed empty and
2.if the lifters are bad is it possible that it can mess up the rockers i never hear anyone having to change those im curious
3.Is the 3rd gen lifters from the 98-99

well i decided to take the lifters (3rd revision from dsmmotorsports) out of my 94 gst engine and measured the hole and its 3mm. I was wondering if i could put these in my 95 gst the reason i ask is because i hear people say that they should go back in the same location in the head but these lifters have about 350-500 miles on them and i can pump fluid out of them.

The haynes manual says to put them back in original location and since i dont have the 94 anymore would putting them in my 95 be a problem? has anyone done this? help is greatly appreciated

As long as you bleed them properly, they don't have to return to their original positions. BTW, do not bump your thread again.

Thanks for the update man.

I'm interested in how this turns out for you, and whether or not I want to go with the 3rd gen lifters myself. Good luck!! :)

The 3rd gen are def. a nice thing to have.

Prime them though. I put mine in a cup of oil, then stuck the paper clip in them...Got em moving, put em back in the cup and got some oil moving through them.
A few lifters were really hard to get primed, wouldnt budge..Just kept trying and got em all.
Your overthinking this whole thing though. Its simple, and they help.

Yes but after you prime them, make sure to drain them before re-install.

first off thanks for your guys response. Well for the past week or so my car has sounded like a diesel and has been annoying. Today i put in the big bore lifters and when i started the car it was louder then before so i drove the car for about 15 min and know its too quiet and im not used to that :) it feels stronger too.I recommend the big bore lifters

Topline lifters is what i had planned on using in my 2.3l build should i change that to revised lifters??? or would i fine.

I have MACHV 3rd gen lifters in my 91 tsi.... at the time of install I had a certified mitsu tech help me we soaked them in oil overnight and he installed them. they work awesomw and it purrs like a kitten LOL !!! I have had them in the car since 2005 spring
