Ive been having a loud ticking sound when the engine is cool and when it warms up you dont hear it as much but its still there. it sounds like it comes from the top of the motor so I pulled all the lifters out the head to check them and cant seem to find if one is bad or not. How do you know if a lifter goes bad? all my lifters are still firm and cant move so is a bad lifter supposed to be loose enough to push in and out?

You wont hear it if I make a video because you only here it under load no just sitting at idle. But theres got to be some sort of way to diagnose a faulty lifter isnt there?!

And the lifters are from a 2.4l pt cruiser they probably have a good amount of miles on them.
