Lifter cleaning

Eh? Why not just buy Seafoam?

You could remove each of the lifters and clean them individually with gasoline or mineral spirits or something... then re-install the camshafts, re-do timing, etc.. I just don't understand why you don't want to buy a $5 can of Seafoam and put a few capfulls of the stuff in the crankcase...

because i didnt know all i has to put was a few cap fulls into the crank case LOL

Paul,

Just wondering for my own personal edification, but do you have to pull the cams on a 420A to remove the rockers and get to the lifters? On the 4G's we can pop off the rocker (carefully) and snap them back on without having to do a cam removal.

Thanks pal!

I've completely taken apart and re-assembled two of these heads now, and as far as I know, that's the only way to do it... but, when I think about it, your method doesn't sound all that farfetched. I suppose if you can pry the rocker out, the lifters will pop right out. I haven't tried that method though, so I can only confirm the camshaft removal method.

Maybe Brian knows... B?

Seems like it to me. You just have to watch out when prying off the rocker arms since one of those things can take out an eye and we all know that everything's fun until someone loses an eye right?

I prefer to wear full Kevlar body armor when I do mine, but that's just me being Mr. Safety. Scuse me while I go smoke while changing my fuel pump!

Thanks for jumping in on this Paul.

See, I screwed up on the 420A having an MAF, but I get kudos for being a smartass. Then again, if you had a laugh the visual imagery was well worth it.

i tried puttin a few caps of sea foam into my head and it didnt clean them out still tick tick tick LOL any other ideas ROFL

There's a raft of hydralic lifter cleaners on the shelves at the parts store. Oddly, they're one of the few mechanical band-aids that actually work, primarily because the pressures going on inside HLAs are astronomical.
For reasons I cannot divine, DSMs like "RESTORE".

I have removed both the lifters on my 420a powered talon and my 4g63 talon and I just popped the lifters out of both, you do have to watch what you are doing and never pry on the cams but it is actually very easy and it only took me an hour and a half to replace the lifters on the 4g63 right from the moment I began removing the valve cover to the moment I was bolting it back down.
