ok so when i turn my car on i hear a tapping noise. if i rev it up slow i still hear it, if i give it a couple of bigger revs it goes away, it comes back at idle though and only at idle is when i hear it any suggestions

i had this same problem and i think its very common with our cars, personally i just changed the oil and it went away. you should try searching lifter tick, you will probably find a bunch of threads on this.

huh yea i just had my oil changed and its still there.. this sucks i hope i can find something to get rid of it, and not have to buy new lifters and get them installed

The lash adjusters on our cars get clogged over time and start ticking. The best option is to replace them with 3rd generation lifters (not to be confused with 3g eclipses). The oil passage is larger and they don't tick.

I put a tech article together for how to do this. You can also buy a special tool that makes the swap much less frustrating and less time consuming. But it's not too hard to do. I think the tool is $30.

ok well ill have to take a look at it, how much work is it to do yourself, or better yet if i had to take it to a shop how mcuh $$$ we talkin about

Go look at the tech article. If you wrench on your car, you can certainly do it yourself. The lifters cost $120. Might plan on half a day, but if you get the tool, it can be done in 2 hours (atleast that's how long it'd take me to do it over again). But I took my time and was taking pictures. The tool will help a lot, though. The tech article shows how to do it with prybars, and that is what makes it a pain. With the special tool, it'd be pretty easy.

I don't know how much it'd cost to have a shop do it. I don't take my car to shops anymore.

what lifters should i get, i have been doing some reseach and came across someone putting evo lifters in. is that good or should i just upgrade to better ones (new)

A friend of mine locally did the lifter swap when he upgraded springs cams and retainers. He is super happy with the results. The larger oil holes help resist floating at higher rpms. Its a good investment, and im going to put them in the motor im about to swap in my spyder. good luck from the east coast.

Just look for Topline revised or 3g lifters for our 4G63 motors. I can't say anything about Evo lifters...might be the same thing might be different, might be as good or better, might be no better than stock. Most folks use the 3g/revised lifters.

kenamond's option is the best way to cover this problem, because it will solve the problem, period. but there is another option if you dont have the mechanical ability or the money at the moment to buy the 3G lifters and do the install according to kenamond's tech article.

the best way i have found short of 3G lifters is Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. you will have to change your oil again though. but if you want to get rid of the lifter tick this shouldn't be a big deal. buy yourself one gallon of your choice synthetic motor oil. that would be 4 quarts, and one liter of lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer. you can get it at any parts store chains. drain your oil out and refill using the entire liter or stabilizer. its really thick, it looks like 90 weight gear oil coming out of the bottle. then just change your oil as you normally would. you have to use full synthetic oil for this to work though.

btw, this is of course no substitution for swapping out your oem lifters for a set of 3G's, only a short term solution until you can do it correctly.
