Leaking air from exhuast manifold/turbo?

i am leaking a lot of air between the exhuast manifold and turbo? At first i thought it was becasue i didn't have any washers,but bought them and still leaks, i am going to buy the gasket, what else could it be?

Yep thats the gasket, I got to do mine also, going to do it this weekend. That gasket is such a PITA. Got to take off the whole exhaust manifold just for it, oh well. I am also going to use some high-temp copper gasket peramax stuff(brownish/orange) on both sides to make sure the leak is sealed and not going to come back.

hmm why would you need to take the manifold off to replace the gasket? Just drop the turbo using the 4 bolts on top there and bam its done.. not hard.

ummm.....I had to do mine 3 days ago when I put a Tubular Manifold on (Cough, SSAutochrome, cough cough and more coughs....hey, they are not bad and they look good....) I had to take the manifold off, because he has a stock Manifold and that stud is soo long that it will probably require you to lower the turbo a tad and yank the manifold, I don't remember what I did, I took my stocker off like 2 months ago.

Yep with after-market tublar headers after you unbolt the 4bolts from the turbo, there is really no play. If I could do it without taking the headers off, I would, but I dont think its possible. Plus I would want to take off the headers and sand clean both surfaces to ensure a tight fit with no leaks.

while you are at it with the headers off, get some sandpaper or a dremel and grind off that rust

the gasket would definetly stop the leak. go the extra measure to ensure you dont leak and use some high temp sealant, autozone sells some

whats better the red high temp silicone or copper stuff like what you use on a o2 sensor?

If you can find something that won't burn away at 1200-1600° use that. Turbos have been known the reach those temps.

Personally, I've never had a problem with the new gasket leaking. It's a "crush" gasket. As long as nothing is cracked you'll be fine.

I use the bronze(copper) looking stuff from peramax, even though it says it rated to only 700degrees, I always use it on turbo ends and exhaust, still holds up and works fine.

seeing how we are on the subject. I think i have a leak in my manifold now...When there is a leak, is there a clicking noise? Similar to the lifter sound. Also, I used one of Slowboy racing's 7cm gasket from the manifold to the turbo....should I be fine without the copper gasket sealant? Thanx guys

The sound is usually a ticking, you can accually feel around if there is room when the car is at idle for hot air, thats where you leak can be. Since as stated before the gaskets are crush gaskets you should be fine just using it with a gasket, as that is how the factory does it. Just make sure both sides (turbo and manifold) are cleaned by scraping or sanding them down smooth.

when mine started leaking i just bought another gasket and stacked them together and it seemed to work fine
