Leak down test question

I am thinking about getting a leak down test done of my car. My question is what does this all tell you? Can you pinpoint the leaks such as being from a bad valve or what exactly can they do for ya? And what is a typical cost of having one done?

This test is meant to pinpoint the place where you are losing compression. It consists of pressurizing the cylinder and measuring how quickly the pressure bleeds out and where it is bleeding out from. It will tell you if it is your valves, valve seats, head gasket, or rings.

When I was pricing them I found out that prices were $75 to $100. And be sure that the shop knows what a leakdown test is. It will be commonly confused with a compression test.
