launching questions

90 TSI with a fwd trans..
OK I have a few more questions.
What RPM's do people launch at in a fwd without spinning the crap out of the tires? (regular street tires)
What RPM range do most people shift at during a regular commute?
and here is the stupid question if your sitting there is it harder on the clutch to leave it in gear and just hold the clutch down while your waiting? or would it only wear stuff when your clutch is not completely "disengaged" < never spelled that before

My best advice is for you to practice launching your car somewhere you can safely do it. And it also depends on the mods you have done. I have a friend that runs at 25psi and does a slow launch in a FWD and even when he gets on it all he gets is tire spin.

I lauch at 3800 usually and don't dump the clutch. I let it start rolling quickly than completely release it. I don't have a lot of tire spin. but I am running only a 16G turbo now, with a hard UIC, Bpr 6 spark plugs, and 3 inch exhaust with a 3.5 outlet.

Post it up for sale and get a AWD. Then you can practice slipping the clutch out at 6k rpms, and letting the car walk you all around the track till it figures out which tire is going to hook up first.

Or

You could always put some nice suspension up front and throw some drag bags on it, and put some 255 hoosier slicks up front.

i normally shift at round 3000 rpms daily driving. i take it easy on the car tho and try and conserve gas. as far as the clutch goes things will only wear whe nthe clutch does not fully disengage due to lack of movment in the slave or worn petal, or worn ball and clutch fork

Its quite difficult to perfect but some people actually launch the car with the emergency brake. Pull up on the brake and slowly let off the clutch while pressing the gas. This preloads the suspention and reduces wheel spin but is harder on your clutch. When the light drops you drop the e-brake and fully engage the clutch while giving it more gas. It takes lots of practice and cordination but its generally the fastest way to launch a manual car. This way you have already built boost and wont shock the suspension by dumping the cluch on the line.
