Ok, so I have read as much as I can about launching on this site, and tonight I did some practice launches to get ready for wednesday. my first launch I reved it up to 4000 rpms and was on a hill (me and a friend of mine marked off a distance somewhat close to a quarter mile and timed it using cell phones, this of corse was off road.) so I had the ebrake on and reved it up to 4000 then dropped the ebrake and let off on the clutch somewhat fast and floored it. this caused it to bog down terribly and I got a horrible time. our little strip was up hill and not a full quarter mile, but that is due to the fact that there aren't much long off road roads you can use. the second launch I went from 4500 and did mostly the same thing, it bogged the least on this run, but still bogged. the final run it bogged from 4500 to about 3000 I believe, wasn't too bad, but could definatly pick up some time in my 60' times if I wasnt bogging. apparently my horrible suspension causes my exhaust to touch the ground when launching hard btw. slipping the act 2600 is much harder than my old stock pressure plate. I'll get it soon hopefully. dunno my trap speeds, boost, and havent looked at the log yet (forgot to log the first two). I think the boost is about 20 psi. good news is I dont have fuel cut, but the creep is screwing with me.

having a running car is nice, I can not stress this enough.

how many miles do you have on your 2600 now? if its properly broke in i would try revving and feathering the gas fromlike 4800-5300 count them 1,2,3,4,5 and on the 5th one slip the clutch and right when it grabs floor the gas and let the clutch out. YOu can try 3 counts or whatever timing works for you. This also helps your timing at the tree. Mostly you will have to get out there and practice... but dont dump the clutch and dont practice TOO much...

good luck

It will just take some practice to get the launch down. You do need to try a higher rpm, but be careful if you have a 3 bolt. I launch between 5000 and 6000 and get 60 foot times of about 1.7.

Whatever you do dont dump the clutch thats how you brake parts.

I have DSMLink so I just floor the gas pedal and its bouncing at what I set it at (5250rpm), at the sametime I have antilag enabled so it builds up 15psi of boost on my 50 trim. Slip it until I feel it grab/drop and I'm out of there. 4 Wheel marks because of my crap tires.

Nothing's changed though from how I use to launch it before link. Usually Keep the revs up around 5000-5500 depending on how hard I want to launch. Then the usual slip it real quick while applying gas. Just makes things easier with link, not to mention more powerful due to the build up of boost at idle.

I have 2600 as well, with stock lightened flywheel. Took me a few times to learn (a lot of boggin involved), but you'll know when you did it right. Certainly don't practice on a hill though. Try 5000rpm. Don't let it drop beyond 4500rpm during the entire launch sequence.

thanks a lot, i plan on getting dsmlink asap, but that wont be for a while. it seems very simple, i was kinda just ignorantly launching it to what i thought would get me the best results. the 2600 changes things a lot. when i was launching with my old slipping clutch it was easy since the clutch did the slipping for me. fifth gear at 7000 rpms going 45 is a weird concept. boy did that smell bad. but according to the passengers, "this thing has some power". even though it was slipping so badly. hopefully ill be able to make it to my local drag strip the first of next month. I currently have the flu. fourth time this winter. anyone else have a panzy ass ammune system? this happens every year. when it rains, I'm sick.

I dont think dsmlink will ever stop to amaze me. it may be a piggy back ecu, but theres no question that its the best one out there in anyones mind.

i have dsmlink now too. i was kind of trying to help tstkl learn to launch the 2600 in his cars current state. Dsmlink does take all the guesswork out of it... floor gas, slip clutch... all the feathering and everything goes out the window since the gas is already floored. Learning to launch the car properly without dsmlink will give you that much more of an advantage when you do get it.
Have you tried any of the suggestions yet? ANything work for ya?

i hear ya on the gettin sick thing man... every year jan and feb im sick at least twice... i dont know why. (3 times so far this year)

You better be better for the track this wed though!!! haha

i got the 2600 with a 6PUCK yeah tell me about it. my 60' time was a best of 1.95. that sucks. my car is basically stock. in profile. i cant get my launch down. reading these forums has helped out alittle

I launch at 6,000 with a nice quick slip to keep me from bogging but coming out of the hole very fast. Its not for some people but I have it down and it works very good, mostly its all in the slip.

In time the 2,600 becomes nice to launch with, its hard to explain you can feel how much to slip it gives good feed back is the best what to describe it.

Each setup is going to have a happy spot (the RPM it launches best at). However keep in mind that can vary depending on weather and track conditions. I also suggest you find a flat place to practice. Most tracks staging lanes arent going to be uphill.;) Thats a good place to burn up that clutch. Oh, and just curious. Have you tried to launch it without using the e-brake? You should be able to w/o any roll. Unless you have a clutch that needs adjusting or is just worn out.

the ebrake was needed because i was on a hill. I did play around with it some, but since the clutch is almost brand new I've been trying to be nice to it. I think the best thing for me to do is just practice when I get the chance to.

If you do it right the rpm's won't drop much more than 500rpm lower. Try to hold the rpm at about 5000. When it's time to go, floor the throttle and do a quick slip of the clutch. If it bogs you were too quick with the clutch, or too easy with the throttle. If you roast the clutch and get lots of burnt clutch smell, then you slipped it too much.

It also helps to go to the track and watch an experienced driver launch an AWD DSM.
