What is the largest speaker that you've ever mounted in the front slots of a 1g?

I'm trying to mount a pair of 6x9's in mine, and was wondering if I was wasting my time..

I'd appreciate any quick answers as to if you know if this is possible and or thesable without having to heavily modify my door pannel- I already know the skeleton of the door is getting cut to ribbons, so that I don't care about....

I've got 6 1/2" speakers in the front doors of mine, along with some 3 1/2" speakers in the dash. I've got 6 1/2" ones in the back also, but I'd put the 6x9's back there if you have them. Stick with something else up front, I don't think they'll fit.

there's someone on cardomain that put 8" woofers in the doors, but i would really recommend 6.5" speakers. As long as they are good quality, i doubt you'd hear a difference betwee those and 6x9's.

I'm making a frankenstein system in my car right now- I'm putting a pair of rockford fosgate punch 150w 6x9's in the front, Kenwood 200's in the rear, and a pair of Rockford fosgate punch tweets in the dash.

It's just what I have on hand- looking to spend NO money on my first set of tunes on this...

You could always sell the RF 6x9's and get a decent set of 6.5's.

After a little bit of failed fabrication and a decent amount of "AWE **** that hurt...." I decided, I'm going to sell the Fosgates and get a set of 6.5's with my next paycheck =P

Anyone want a set of slightly used Fosgate 6x9's? LOL

You could post them in the classifieds, you could also try Ebay, too. Ebay is a good place to get new speakers, also, if you want to check there.

get a 6.5 component set

or a 6.5 s (oversized) also known as a 7"...
they fit better than the 6.5s!

they will play much lower than a 6x9 without distorting... roughly down to 50 60 Hz where as most 6x9's break up at about 70 80Hz

Not looking for low end sound on the interior components- this is the first stage in the system- just getting it.

The 6x9's are perfect for the type of music I listen to (Techno, Emo, Punk, Ska, Rock, etc.), I've had this set up in previous cars I've had.

punchy midbass... clear highs and vocals...

but its your car and your ears... if a 6x9 souns better to you than a component set then get the 6x9s

Right now it's just what works- it's what I had on hand at the time. As I was saying, I was trying to spend as little money as possible on this considering all of my money is currently going into body work and rebuild.

And as I was saying, this is only stage one- next to go in is a sub and another amp in the back. So that will take care of the lack of bass.

A componenet set would be nice, but maybe a little too nice.

I have Infinity Perfect door speakers and Kicker Resolutions in the dash. I have really great mid-bass and clarity with that combination. I also have the same Infinity Perfects in the rear (6.5"). They work wonderfully with the high-clarity of the Kickers. For bass, I have a simple 10" MTX sub with a Jensen 300w amp. I don't like a lot of bass, so I just stuck with that. The real system is in my 'Lude, though :D

This is Wade from clubdsm on lj. You can fit 6x9s in your doors, but you have to hack the panels a bit, remove that bottom carpet and grill and put some fiberglassing skills to work. Its not too hard, just time consumming.

I put in a pair of 7" speakers that have a mounting depth of 2 5/8". I installed them without the plastic baffles and only a thin layer of butyl behind them. The window rolls down, hits a little, and takes slightly more effort to roll down. No modifications to the door panel either.

I woudln't put 6x9's in your front doors. Thats were most of the sound comes from that you'll hear and you want good speakers in there. Rarely are 6x9's considered good speakers...the shape is just wrong for accurate sound reproduction. Get a good set of Infinity (Reference or Perfect's, ref. have the easier sounding silk tweeter perf's have the metal that sounds somewhat harsh to me), Polk, or CDT (great performance gear at really reasonable prices. Not too many sets better for less than $200 for component) components. They'll be light year's better in audio quality.
