So I'm trying to figure out if I blew the back speakers or if something has just come loose. The two rear speakers (both stock) rattle when in a bass-heavy song. I don't think they're blown, the song isn't distorted at all there's just a slight buzzing around the speaker when bass hits. I'd like to check this out further, how do I remove the rear plastic paneling around the speakers? I can see some plastic studs to take out but it looks like there are also several bolts.

Help appreciated!

Okay not sure about a 1g but my 2g did the same thing...I went and bought new speakers and put them in...Same exact thing happened.Anyway I took the speaker out and there is a black plastic thing the speaker sits in.I took it off and there was this tape looking stuff that peeled back.I think its used so that the plastic wont vibrate on the metal.Anyways I just tightened the plasic thing and walla no more rattle.Hope I helped if you understand anything I was trying to say.LOL

my 2g speakers were blown when mine rattled so head to get new ones. its very easy to remove the paneling ~5 screws. you'l have to take out the rear seat bottoms to get at one, and just fidangle with other panels and the rear seat back.

I would suggest new ones while your back there anyways as well. I cant help with the removal/install becuase I dont have a Eclipse. Try cruthcfield.com for some good speakers and they will tell you what size you need for that car.

Ok, pulled off the side paneling unscrewed a speaker. I can't see anything wrong with it, no wires are touching and nothing looks damaged. If I touch the speaker cone the problem immediately and completely goes away.

well done king midas :applause:

but i would still go ahead and get new ones if your planning or already have an after market deck. the stock ones do sound good, although over a decade old now

Well see the problem stops if I touch the cone... but I can't be touching the cone if I'm driving.

I already have an aftermarket deck :)

Pioneer DEH-P4000UB. I've had the bass cranked all the way up since the day I installed the deck, I think the speakers just gave up :(

I recomend that you change them out as well. If you don't wanna spend to much money but want a nice sound go to walmart and pick up a pair of Sony 6X9 4 ways, they will cover all your needs and there only like $60 a pair.
