I have looked around the forums for this but not really found what I was looking for.. I bought a car that has koni i beleive they are 8040's... they say they are adjustable but have no clue how to do it.. I saw a post about the yellows and iv actually tried turning the shaft at the top like it says to sofen or make firm but no joy...

Anyone have the orange koni front and rear i beleive they are 8040's or what not.. they are on a 98 gst..

I don't have koni's on my car, but if be careful adjusting the dampening on the top nut, don't go to soft/hard as it can F&^% up the shock.

Are they height adjustable?

as far i know they are... im going to be pulling them off this weekend.. i just know that it says adjustable with an arrow on the side of the shock near the bottom...

They adjust differently than the yellows. The yellows have an adjuster at the top of the shaft that's easily seen and easily adjusted. Yours adjust by pressing in the shaft all the way until it bottoms out, then turning it one way or the other. You'll feel the shaft catch on something once it's bottomed completely, and suddenly provide resistance to spinning it.

Turn it all the way both ways so you decipher ;) the range, then adjust them to full stiff, then back off to the level you desire. (Hope it does what you think it's doing). Mount, test, repeat if necessary.

Don't adjust an adjustable shock? I'm tempted to ask "why not?" but I'm afraid that you'll answer.

That's why I love my teins :thumb: Don't have to completely remove them to adjust height hehe. 'Twas a good investment hehe

If what makes a coilover a "good investment" is being able to adjust height without removing them from the car, then you should have got K-Sports. They're cheaper than Teins.

To the OP: are they really orange or just faded red? Orange = Streets. Red = Specials.

I think there might be a misunderstanding. I don't think those struts are height adjustable. The adjustment is for the rebound to be able to better match them to different spring rates. Scroll to half way down this page for specific instructions.

you know what... your right.. I was just siting on my couch thinking about that... its gonna make it a softer or firmer bounce with the spring....

let me ask this.... once the car is lowered on the ground.. off the stands.. the weight of the motor and car depresses the sock... making that softer or firmer wont effect height at all will it.. just when hitting bumps in the road right??

Correct, adjusting the rebound should not affect the ride height of the car. Some Koni models allow the spring perch to be moved up and down for ride height adjustability. I don't know for sure if the 8040's have this feature. But looking at the pics I don't think so since there is a tab welded to the strut body (just below the stamped writing) which the perch sits on.

aye.. thank you sir... now to deside what to do.. buy higher coils or use the stock struts and coils.... thank a million man..

When you first drop it with the jack it might sit a little higher than normal with the stiffer dampening, but it will level out when you drive it.

Your welcome. If wanting to go with higher spring rates do some research first to make sure those struts can handle them. Based on jtmcinder's post (orange=streets) leads me to believe that they are intended to be used with stock(ish) spring rates.

Edit: FWIW, you actually have shocks and not struts as I have incorrectly been referring to them.

Thats what I was thinking as well. The car came with the springs and struts. I know for a fact that the springs on them at the momment are not the stock or even stock(ish) springs just by the brand of springs they are. Who knows, I might just switch springs with my other dsm and call it a day as Im going to be selling my other car here soon as it is.
