I cannot for the life of me find out where the knock sensor goes on my 4g63. I've read every post and looked a every picture and even sat under my car and on top of the engine feeling around and looking for the spot. My problem is that I had it at a shop and the mechanic took the old one out cause it was busted and put a bolt in the hole cause it was leaking oil... My stupid decision I didn't have him put a new one in now in stuck searching any pictures or help would be appreciated!

Climb into your engine bay. Sit Indian style on the valve cover. Now reach your right arm around the right side of the intake manifold. Once your hand is about in the middle of the block, move down a little bit. You'll feel a plate with two connectors, keep going down and BAM the knock sensor would have been there. Now remember that plate you felt with two connectors, go back to it and that's your plug for the electrical connection for the knock sensor.

I would take pictures, but it's pouring down rain outside

It shouldn't be leaking oil, at all. Here is a couple pictures of mine when the wiring was broken off the back. First picture is from the timing belt side just behind the timing belt, I can get my arm in there and touch it. Second pic is directly underneath, being I'm only fwd it was this accessible for me :)

Maybe it wasn't leaking oil it just had some oil on it i dont know the mechanic seemed like a dink and obviously was for not even knowing what the sensor was or replacing it

What are the little hoses that connect to that bracket for?

The threaded hole for the knock sensor location is the one threaded next to the cylinder 2 freeze plug. Its closer to the deck of the block.

This.

So even mine is in the wrong place? Why would mine be put in there....

Can I disconnect the little hoses that are attached to the bracket or do I need those
If you haven't done an emissions delete, they are needed. See: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-miscellaneous/198327-taboo-speed-shop-vacuum-diagram-removal-1g-2g.html

Knock sensor? Easy, passenger side behind the fender.

jk, its in the service manual though. If you see what you think is oil its actually the infamous "black goo" that usually indicates a dying(sp) knock sensor. Its not oil.

Not exactly sure whats in a knock sensor but its something tuned to produce either a voltage or a resistance at a certain frequency(which would be detonation on that particular engine) How accurate are they? Phantom knock is a real thing so its not the exact frequency of detonation but close enough when operating properly to be functional. Guess i rambled on a bit, you know where it is now, others have stated clearly. Dload the service manual on here, it comes in handy if you dont want to dig out your haynes/chilton

For some reason my block doesnt have a hole there at all!? I ended up getting ahold of the mechanic and he took the old one out of a hole that was right next to that bottom bolt hole for the bracket why would mine be there? Check engine light went off now that it's in.

Anyone know why it would be there? And why I don't have a spot to put it where it's supposed to go

Didnt someone already tell you this was normal for the n/a block?? :banghead: 2nd thread about this?:notgood:
-.- if you know where it goes why are you making this a huge deal? Get a new mechanic if he cant figure this out.

Is the difference of the freeze plug locations because they are different blocks, 6/7 bolt?

Mine is out of a 97' in my 95'. And all the freeze plugs are in line, they don't dip down like that

As far as I've noticed, it is a 1G vs. 2G thing, not a 6- vs. 7-bolt.

I was getting a check engine light on my 1g and when i pulled the codes it came back as the knock sensor but I was sure I wasn't getting knock. I checked the sensor and it was super loose but other than that it looked fine, although it was sort of a pain to get to. I was alarmed by how loose it was in there and thought that perhaps that was the cause of this phantom knock problem I was having and my timing being slightly retarded. From what I understand if I had DSM link I could have turned the sensitivity down but at the time I didn't have the cash for link so I got a plastic washer and put it in between the block and the senor, cut a wrench in half so I could get some turns in, and snugged it down. After this no more check engine light and the car runs better than ever!! Just curious if anyone else has had this problem before and what they did to fix it?? And why maybe the sensor was so loose?

Also, I got to the knock sensor by following the connector and it lead me right to it!!! I had the t-case and axle off so it made it a little easier.
