I just wanted to say my knock problem is overwith! If anyone is having a severe phantom knock problem heres something you may want to consider. I tried everything... If you want to take the time and look at my previous posts you'll see what i mean. Finally I got an eprom ecu and had a friend with a eprom burner write a new eprom with KNOCK ELIMINATING programming. I was skeptical at first because i had tried so many other things but it was worth it. I'm not sure where to order something similar but I'm sure its out there, keydiver chips? Anyways I just wanted to let all of you guys out there that are frustrated with phantom knock know about this maybe you will read this and have your car working properly a lot sooner than I did. I went from 40+ knock sum to practically none. This rant is officially over..

It has two mechanisms to prevent phantom knock. First it will not accept any signal from the knock sensor unless you go over 60% throttle position or 6psi which solves partial throttle knock. Second it has theres thing called knock degradation. When the ecu sees a ton of knock it doesn't go back to 0 even if there is no knock sort of like a safety mechanism until you back off throttle I suppose. At least this is what Ive been told.

Your knock is probably real. I've found that when an engine is old or improperly built, it can trigger the knock sensor (loose bearings/rods/crank/pistons, etc). The only sure way to tell if you have phantom knock is to get a wideband (and even then its not 100% accurate) which would tell you if you are at a safe air/fuel ratio. If your knocking and you are not running lean this means you have phantom knock (or something is rattling, like a bad block/head).

Congrats on getting that PK delt with. People (including myself) have fought with it for years until the ECU gurus came to our aid :D

FYI.. Kyle Tarry gives a good explaination of PK and lists the code he used HERE

Similar code is also found in DSMLink (user-adjustable) and DSMChips :dsm:
