I've done searching and please I don't mean to insult anyone if the answer is in another thread. I just got my dsm running and have replaced almost anything you can think of. But still have a couple of problems I'm not so sure of. It first takes a few cranks for it to start the first time. I have read it can be my coolant temp sensors. I will replace and hopefully that Will do the trick. But most importantly. I have a noise in between a knocking or ticking sound around my timing belt area. I have replaced timing belt,tensioner,bearings, and everything a Long wit it. It goes away after it reaches The half way temperature. Also goes away when I push the clutch. Any ideas? Please help!! It's aggravating and concerning. I'm getting ready to start doing fuel mods but not with this concern. thanks!

If it's going away when you push in your clutch I'm gonna have to say it is you throw out bearing for your clutch. I have the same issue it almost sounds like a bad lifter tick but then I push in my clutch and it goes away....but I'm definitely gonna have to say it is your TOB making the noise especially if it goes away when your clutch is engaged. I mean I wouldn't look at it as a crazy big problem every DSM I have owned always had TOB noise and would go away when clutch was engaged..I don't see any problems with you not starting to do your fuel upgrades just make sure all your other mods are in order!
 
If it is coming from the timing belt area, it might also be something else as well. Put a stethoscope up to the engine and see where the noise is originating from while it is running. A bearing of some sort sounds likely as the oil would thin out-->cover more internal metal surfaces once warm/flowing. If it is something internal, there is not much that can be done immediately, so just inspect and record any changes that take place :)
 
It doesn't tick around my clutch area.. it does it around my trimming area and goes away either after it warms up or push in the clutch and Okay cool thanks it was concerning me cause it was fairly loud at cold start but I will check And could it also be that I'm running synthetic oil?
 
Yea that's weird...and 2fast2Evo has a good idea with using a stethoscope to try and pinpoint it..but as I was saying on my car does something like that also and it almost sounds like it comes from the timing side/valve cover area too but when I push in my clutch it goes away...but try the stethoscope idea, I always just use a long screw driver and put the handle to my ear but then again I have really good hearing..but I'm sure u will figure it out one way or another. Does it make the noise when you rev?

Okay I'll try that, several people have told me that I'll look into both hopefully it's an easy fix and nothing serious, and I can't really tell since my exhaust system takes over when I rev it. But it certainly goes away after it warms up or push clutch in.it's coming from the lower part of my timing area. I heard it can also be due to running on synthetic oil? Could that be true?

The screwdriver idea works too as JB said as well, anything that helps pinpoint the source.
I don't know whether or not synthetic would do that, although I can't imagine that it would (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). The cold flow vs hot flow conditions of the oil are indicated by its viscosity ratings.

Everyone had their own opinion about synthetic oils but me myself hate it...in every car I used synthetic in I spun a bearing or just blew it up but to each their own, but me myself I stick to conventional oil as ive never had any issues
