kinda weird question

ok... this question isnt really dsm related, but it's kinda general vehicle related and theres a lot of smart guys on this board... mods feel free to move this if you dont think this is an appropriate section to post in..... this weekend my truck is going in to be bodydropped, i need to pull the dash out tomorrow, that's all pretty straightforward. however my concern is the airbags. when i disconnect the wiring and everything is there anything i need to watch out for, i dont want to fire em off by accident. i've been told i need to let the truck sit with the battery disconnected for several hours before f-ing with them. but has anyone had any experience dealing with these things???

First off leaving the battery disconnected for hours does nothing because the airbags have an emergency back up battery just for that type of situation. I wouldnt recommend working with them personally. But if you must then read up on it in your Haynes or Chiltons service manual...if you dont have one then get one. BTW those SRS (supplemental restraint system) systems will usually throw a CEL when you disconnect them so if you cant reset that light it will glow indefinitely.

depending on the year and make of vehicle. But there should be a harness comming down from you steering colounm (sp) Unplug that and let it sit for a cppl hours then you will be okay. I have done this many times and this is what we were taught in school.

sometimes i amaze myself, i do have a chilton's manual for the truck, i dont know why the hell i didnt think to at least look in there first. i'll have to do that when i get home. thanks for the replies so far guys.
