Keep killing Alternator Volt Regulators

Alright, so it looks like I'll be ordering the 105amp (I think that should be enough hopefully) and the SE Voltage Regulator add on.

I'm really hoping this will solve my problem and not just fry this alternator as well.

*Edit*
Order placed! Did 105 AMPS W/SE Reg.

Hope, hope, hope this fixes my problem. This problem is keeping me from doing other things that I want to the car. Thrown away too much money.

Keep us updated man because the step you just made is my next, I'm fed up of swapping alts and charging my battery everynight.

Will do. The alternator was just shipped according to the site. So it should be here in about 3-4 business days hopefully.

Tenn-GSX, for the Alternator, did you have to do any grinding or anything specific to get it to bolt on to the car? And any changes to any fuses that need to be done with this higher-amp ALT?

ALT just arrived in the mail today. Won't be able to install it till Monday. The grinding needed is pretty straight forward to get it on, but all the wiring in the guide has me completely confused as to which wire needs to be connected,

Been in the process for several hours now. I can not for the life of me, get the thing bolted on after many many hours of grinding. And yes, I did it exactly as the guides said to do so.

Having a 7-bolt/ Stock Oil cooler housing makes it real difficult.

Not going well so far.

Just run one wire strait from the battery to the post on the alt.

I just ordered my SL 105A also. Im still worried my car may ruin it :(. I got another pepboys one yesterday (#11) and wouldn't charge the moment i started the car (and revved it to atleast 5k) so I know its not heat. I ran a wire directly from the alt to the battery and it changed nothing. I'm just assuming the weak 65A replacements cant handle all the gauges, hid's, turbo timer, and all my other gizmos. Hopefully it fixes my problem also !

Saturn alternator installed and WORKS PERFECT !!! I opted for the Self Exciting regulator and HIGHLEY reccommend it to anyone else. I had a feeling the problem lied within the "charge/battery" light and I'm pretty sure it was. I was able to not even have to hook up the plug (motorcityreman actually glued the plug port shut to make sure I was unable to use it. All I had to do was run a wire with a inline fuse from the battery to the alt and BAM !!!! no problems. Here are my stats:

Idle no acc = 14.8v
Idle fans, HID's, 5 gauges +backlights, turbo timer, radio+ipod, and charging my iphone w cig lighter = 14.2v !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Voltage past 5k never went below 13.9 or above 14.4

I honestly could not be happier. Thanks to everybody who posted in this thread and most of all "TENN-GSX" for the link to the awesome alternator shop. Problem Resolved.

So far, the car is running with no charging problems. This is truly an awesome mod that is well worth it. Coming soon is a small 10" Sub, with HID's.

So glad this problem is finally fixed. Didn't like having to replace alternators every 3 months.

3 months later, the car is still running perfect with no dying ALT issues at all, and healthy voltage with A/C, and headlights on.

Best mod I've done to the car next to ECMlink.

Good to hear. BTW, did you get the pulley swapped for the smaller one or did you just run what came in the box? Also, what size alternator belt did you use and what's your idle set to?

This is directed to rocafella and crispy.

I stuck with the same pulley that it came with, and used my stock ALT belt. Idle is 1k.

Good to hear. Thanks! From my understanding, the 105amp alt has a slightly larger pulley than the 150amp alt that I have.

Necro-Revive-Update on this thread. Four years later, alternator is still running like a champ with no issues. One of the best mods I've done along side getting ECMlink.

Weird but when I first start my car my lights will come on ,alt light brake light, and reservoir light and the voltage would read a high 14.5. After a while the lights all cut off then voltage goes to the range of 12.7 to 13.5. Lights on Ive seen as low as 12 to 11.9. I'm wondering if this was the same issue you had,car starts every time though.
