I recently installed a K&N gold series oil filter on my car and my valve tick hasn't been heard since. The weather here in New York has been 32F all the way down to -12F.Still my valve tick is not present.I have read that some oil filters can quiet down valve tick compared to others but didn't think it could get rid of them all together.I tried the MCCC procedure when I first got the car and all it did was kill my O2 sensor. This is the only change I have made to the car that would even remotely effect valve tick.I thought I would share my findings to every one.

It has something to do with oil pressure through the filter..the K&N and OEM filters seem to be the best for our cars.

Do they increase oil pressure? I've been having a little low oil pressure since I bought it.

No I threw it on with new oil the same that I have always used.Mobil 10w30.If it wasn't the filter well then some one let me know where my valve tick went and why.I did a search on oil filter reviews and came up with a site a guy had where he had taken a part dozens of oil filters.Long story short he mentioned some filters keep pressure and flow more oil(or flow easier) to the top end.Nappa gold was one he said help to quite down his top end on his vehicle and was a well made filter.I tried a Nappa gold filter and it did help it out alot (it would tick for half the time it did before on start up and not all the time)He hadn't got to testing the K&N filters yet or a few others but K&N claims on the box it flows 12-16 gallons a minute.Well in a nut shell if their air filters kick a$$ then their oil filters are probubaly just as good.
My oil pressure didn't seem to change at all on the factory gauge but if you want to increase your oil pressure I would suggest putting in 10w40 for a slight bump in oil pressure. My car has 124,000 on it and I run 10w40 now for the last 6 months and every thing is fine I just make sure she is warmed up real good in cold weather also I checked doing this with my mechanic who races these cars and has worked on them for 10 years at a DSM only shop.
Like I said if any one has any ideas what got rid of the valve tick clue me in because if it wasn't the filter then I am stumped:confused:

Try running Royal Purple, Synthetic. it doesnt burn as easly as Mobile one does.

so it's probably a better lube. .. I like it. I gave 5 quarts to a freind of mine who has a 90 tsi and he's extremly happy with how the engine sounds after running it. he said his tick is pretty much gone.

of course we're not in uber cold temps like you are (south carolina temps are decent)

Make sure you flush the oil you got now before you switch to synthetic.

I would keep the K&N filter, it's shorter then stock sized filters, so it fits with the 3inch exhaust mods (turbo down or straight non turbo downpipes tend to hit that oilfilter if it's too "tall") K&N fits nice.

maybe just maybe the tick get tired and went somewhere im sure theyll be back soon jk:D

No a filter won't do that. Its probably jsut the new oil. They'll be back to ticking soon don't worry!

I treated mine with Restore every oil change for a year and my 95 lifters do not tick, haha! I have stopped using it for about 1/2 a year....or maybe my car is just magical.
