so i know there is multiple problems with my car.. thats why i bought it for a grand... and with any used car more or less ur gonna have your probs.. anyways... just went for a drive.. here's what i know is wrong with my car:
heat sheild? under car is rattling when its accelerating over 3500 rpms or so... thats not a bad rpoblem though..

rear rotors are shot on the car... i can pull ebrake at any given tiome and nothing happens :p

front rotors are warped.. so she shimmies like none other when braking hard.. probably cuz since the rears are out the front is doing all the work... so new brakes this spring!:thumb:

battery posts are too long so it hits hood when i slam it, or someone says it could happen on hard turns...???

I'm prettty sure my turbo is going.. thats what i've come to... blue smoke under acceleration..

anyways went for a drive... going down a steep hill about 85.... hit the brake moderatly hard... car shimmies... all power shuts off on car.. stereo off for a second, lights off for a sec.. literally 1 second or so....

then it comes back on.. is this from my battery post? when the car vibrates from shaking the post is causing a short? i'm assuming yes cuz i know that there is a weld spot hole on the underside if my hood from it.. so what is the temp fix on this? some "metal duct tape" on it? or something for now?

also i only went for about a 20 minute drive.. moderatly hard i guess... but when i got out i popped the hood and my turbo was glowing bright bright orange! is this cuz i was getting on it or because my turbo is going? or a combo?

please give me all info and suggestions.. thanks..

I would say definitely put some duct tape or something to keep those posts from hitting the hood and yes that would cause the car to shut off and on if the positive post is hitting the hood. Consider purchasing the correct battery.
As for your glowing red, this is normal when we run the turbo hard. Hopefully you let the motor run for at least 3-5 minutes before shutting down if the housing was glowing. If not the oil in the shaft will stick to it and shorten the life of your turbo even more.
Now, you said your car is blowing smoke under boost, you need to do a compression check to make sure your motor is healthy. Check your anti-freeze and oil and make sure they are not mixing.
And, for your e-brake, if you remove the center console you can adjust the cable that is connected to the e-brake handle. See if that helps out.

Overal, sounds like you have the other problems diagnosed, now all you need to do is tackle each one, one at time.

Good Luck,
Steve

Yup.

Uh... metal CONDUCTS, duh. How about a chunk of innertube? Or better, a terminal protector from a shop? OR MAYBE THE RIGHT-SIZED BATTERY?

You don't know what glowing is, kid. Now put the heat shield back on, while you still have a fan to protect.

Hey everyone,

I also have the same problem where the power shuts off in the car but it happens when i hit the brakes. it doesn't happen everytime i hit the brakes. usually when i rev it up to about 5k rpm and then hit theb rakes everything will turn off and then back on again. it does this even when i am parked. any ideas ? i'm thinking it might be the alternator

Someone most likely braked too hard while going fast and warped front rotors. Is it just the ebrake that seems to not work good, or the back brakes all together? You could try to adjust the ebrake. Sounds like there is a wire somewhere the is contacting some metal and shorting out somewhere.

Yea change your battery or fix the posts or something, bolt it down and make sure it isn't moving. Your posts are moving causing your car to ground out which in turn can cause a pretty nasty engine fire so be careful. Also you sure the cable for your ebrake isnt broken instead of the rotors just shot?

I second a compression test. The electrical issue seems like a quick fix, meaning that you could do simple things to isolate where the short is coming from (battery first). The bigger issue will be the blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. It could be a number of things from inside the motor, which means more money to be invested in just a rebuild / maintenance. A compression test will help determine whether you're piston rings are gone / piston health. But it won't be for sure until you actually take the motor apart. If the headgasket is leaking, coolant and oil will be mixing together and causing blue smoke to come out your exhaust. I believe when you have a coolant leak you typically see white smoke come out and blue/black smoke with an oil leak.

Good luck with trouble shooting!
