I just socketed my first ecu, i took the socket from a computer part by using a heat gun and it pulled right off, then i did the same to the ecu and the oem chip came off with ease. then used my solder gun to put it on the board. :D

i never thought of using my old computer cards for ecu parts. i have a million old pci cards that are completely worthless. points for ingenuity man.

Yes it did it works perfect i got a maft with gm maf even though the eprom is burnt for 2g maf and 550cc injectors i set the maft to emulate a 2g signal and at 450cc injectors and it has really changed the power of this car its insane now.

A heat-gun, huh? What did you have it set to? I used a Desoldering Iron which was nerve-racking.

Its a wagner ht3000 set all the way at 9. but i had to be REALLY careful not to damage the board so i did it really close and quick, and used a small screwdriver to pry up on the oem chip.

my original method was to cut the chip off like this thread http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-tuning-ecu/266472-socketing-eprom-ecu.html but i figured if anything went wrong i needed to keep it.

i wouldnt advise anyone to do it this way as its dangerous and with that much heat and if exposed for a long time it will destroy the board.
