Hey guys i just rebuilt my engine bout 2 thousand miles ago and before my balance shafts went to shit so i thought that was it but its still there after everything is replace. I have heard of peoples ecus going bad but mine doesn't click how i have heard it described. If anyone has any ideas get back to me.

Oh ya i took it to a shop too and they couldn't read the code from my ecu.

The CEL is an idiot light. In OBDII cars (I know... you're not OBDII), they usually just deal with emissions problems. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Are you suffering and performance or driveability losses?

Any details on why they couldn't pull the code?

ok i wil check the ecu. The car seems to run perfectly fine very quick for a nt etc... i was just curious why it comes on. And they said that it comes on, the CEL, but didn't give off code. The ecu wouldn't translate the language or something. Basically they couldn't pull the code out of the ecu.

It's pretty simple to pull the codes from a 1G ECU. I use a 12v piezo buzzer from radio shack on the bench but driving around with the thing beeping would be annoying so I use 12v LEDs (or a regular LED and a series resistor) for monitoring in the car when people don't have a datalogger. If everything is normal it will flash on and off giving a heartbeat and if you do have a CEL it will flash out the code.

The instructions are on the VFAQ site.
