So i have 1995 gst and its been acting really weird lately, idle has been bad it dies randomly and it grinds badly when it starts, all this is recently. Than i also got a check engine light but cant take it anywhere because places have been closed for a while because of some holiday. can you think of something that it might be and should i worry?

Well, it has a bad idle. and it sounds like the "engine is grinding" when running, and you are asking if you should worry?? uhh maybe just a bit..

Could be a bad vacuum, clean your TB,... as for the grinding noise record a video, is it grinding or are you just describing the symptoms incorrectly.

Thats all I can suggest at this point!

Just go to Advanced Auto and ask to use their code scanner. Write down the codes, then relay to us (and/or search)

im not incorrectly putting in, im going to have a mechanic look at it but what i think it is. I think its the idle controll sensor sence they go out alot in these cars, also maybe a cam sensor and the grinding could be a bad starter.

Please only help that is helpful, im not trying to be mean but im startin to worry because i just bough the car and it just now started doing this, autozone or any other parts store do not do obd1, they only do obd2 which isnt my car. Which you shold have known

LOL...... Tons of guys here take their 2G's to Autozone for Scans..

Its obd 2, just not in the official year 96. You still plug the car into the obd2 emmision machines, and they are infamaous for haveing one particular flag that won't set. You can pay mitsu to "cheat" for you last I heard.

Just ask if you can borrow the scanner personally. It WILL work, they're just idiots. Inform them that you want to atleast try.

It's obd2 man my 95 tsi is I had cell light come on plugged it up and sure enough it worked.

Ok so i took it to autozone again to have it checked and they refused again, so i took it to a mechanic and charged me 90 dollars and told me it was my coolent loop.

What is a coolent loop?

They didn't even tell you the code? Sounds like you got ripped.

Anyways, if it deals with coolant, there's about 10 codes it could be: P0115-P0119, P0125 and P0126 come to mind.

Guessing, I'm saying its P0125, Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Closed Loop Fuel Control. You're probably running lean. Check your engine cooling system (thermostat, engine coolant temp sensor, coolant reservoir, radiator, etc.) then get back.

Bubbles in your cooling system or low coolant can cause a surge at idle and poor performance. So can the idle control valve. so can a vacuum leak. so can a bad MAF.
