Just Keeps Reving

First of all this is all new to me. I'm not a big car guy but I bought a 93 Talon because I thought it was a good deal and it seemed to run well, this was back in May. I haven't had any problems until today.

It was cold this morning (26 degrees) and I let my car warm up for about 3 minutes and then started going. I live a short distance from the main road and it seemed to do fine on that went up to about 30 mph. When I got onto the main road again I got up to about 30 mph and then when the car shifted I lost power. The turbo was not engaging, boost was not registering, and I got up to 5000 rpm without accelerating much. I took side roads to work and never tried to go faster than 35 mph.

Is my turbo dead?

Am I going to need major repair?

Any help would be appreciated. Again I'm not a car guy so don't get to technical.

could be your clutch, like if you can drive normally with it and accelerate fine, but once you get on it, and the rpm's go up with no real major increase in acceleration, then i would look into a slipping clutch, if the turbo was dead, it wouldnt be very responsive.
