Hey guys im 17 and i really would love to get a 2G Eclipse GSX. But all the ones near me have a lot of miles on them. So i was thinking about buying one and completely restore it. I want to strip it down and rebuild it. Has anyone on here done this before? How much do you guys think this will cost me? I want to maybe get a crate engine or a rebuilt engine somewhere online, any suggestions where i can get one? And i would rather have a 6 bolt cause i heard about a crank walk problem wit the 7 bolt. Please post a response, idk if im going to do this but i really want to and i just want to here from people who have experience with dsm's.

drive terrain and everything

It's "drivetrain". Drive terrain would be a landscape you drive on.

And a buyer's guide already exists http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...m-buyers-guide-what-look-when-buying-dsm.html

It was written by the founder of this site.

This forum really confuses me. Sometimes the members are weilding flamethrowers and other times they're a bunch of carebears.

OP: you're asking a lot of questions that have been answered a multitude of times.
Fact- these cars are old and with age comes problems. There are simpler cars out there that will present you with less complex issues. Beware of the DSM and what owning one entails.

Ok thanks and sorry my phone auto corrects me

im currently doing a ground up restore on my 95 TSI. Im not restoring it to bone stock tho. I have put around $10,000 into it so far.

Even 2K is pretty high for a good 95 Talon.

Although I agree that 4k is really steep for a non-running car, it is sadly enough the going price for s DSM in NY

Keep your eyes peeled, I found an AWD 95 for 500 bucks. Spun bearing and blow head gasket, but I had fun rebuilding it with a knowledgable DSM mechanic.

I picked up my '99 GS Spyder for $500 from my neighbor. 100% mechanically sounds, but was in a minor fender bender. I'm currently working on replacing the busted parts, and it's not that expensive.

OP: Keep looking. Don't jump on something right off the bat just because you want one. Find a deal, they're out there.

ok thanks for the advice but i need to find a car soon so i can start rebuildding right away, haha im anxious

and i just wanted to let everyone know i got back from visiting the whit 95 talon, it was pretty nice, custom interior paint on the outside was pretty good, with some work i can make it nice and shiny. also no rust at all. but the bad thing is that he doesn't know whats wrong with it and he still wants $2000 for it and he said thats pretty much the lowest he will go, any suggestions?

Yeah, buy a Mustang or Camaro. You clearly don't know what it takes for a DSM to be back and what a bi*** a DSM can be. Parts break everyday all day. You say you're good with cars, but you ask questions that show you have absolutely no clue about cars. My other suggestion is to not post anymore. Do all the searching for about 2 months, then start posting after you get an idea and knowledge of these cars.

hope this is advice is not too late. but stay away from slowboy racing. just do a search. here's my story. btw sorry to thread jack but it's really not since the advice is related to your question.

I ordered AEM cam gears and a S90 throttle body on 3/21/11 for a total of $471.61. Got the cam gears, did not however get the throttle body. Called, emailed, waited and finally after a month was told it was not available. So I told Joe to just get me the BBK one, my second or third choice by the way. Time goes by, more calls, more emails, no throttle body. Finally an email that says they can't get it. I go to BBK webpage and have one in my hands 4 days later!!! So, I want my $280 back. Lets just say it's now 7 months and no refund. I've provided all info asked of me and still no refund. Customer's first? I guess it's all how you define customer's first.

Dead thread revival to bash a company that is no longer. Don't believe me? Go to their site and try to buy a DSM bolt-on turbo.

Somebody didn't do their homework, and as a result is just arriving to the game during the bottom of the 9th.

I'm confused about your comment.

The post date was this August so it was not out of line to post. This guy was asking about how to get started and I think it's important that as a community we take the opportunity to inform others going in places where we have already been.

Yea, was I looking for a chance to speak my mind about Slowboy? Hell yes. I'm pissed and other guys should be aware of them....even their new company Built Industries.

When I ordered the parts, IN MARCH of this year they took my money and I did get a part of the order. Why would I have to "research" them. I had a wholesale account with them.

hey now, no need to down talk him. he is just young and ill informed. i got my car june of last year, it was completely stock but now it has most of stage 1, and i have done all the work with help from my friend since i didnt have the basics to work on my car he let me use his shop and I am still learning, slowly but it can be done if the money is there and if you have the ambition to do it. just use the forums, research, research, research!
