so let me just say, i drive a g35 as a daily driver. i have an eclipse gs 95 sitting at home. its been there for almost a year. sadly =( i love that car and ive decided to turn it into my project car.
but idk where to start. the tranny is messed up, the first gear takes forever to shift, it smells like gas pretty bad everytime i drive it, i bought when it had 56k miles back in 2007. but i figured it was prob reset!!! so idk. any suggestions? any help? would b very appreciated. i bought some coilovers from ebay and ill prob install those soon on it. needs some cosmetic work, but i want to focus on the inside first to make it driveable and eventually a beast. thanksss

well im not trying to race this car, i just want it to make it fast but not too fast, i want to be able to show it off, and have ppl say its fast LOL.
im gonna take my time, im not gonna rush into hooking it up, i want it all done in a year tops.
question though, is a gs even worth spending money in??
thanks for the quick response

Word of advice...I tried using the ebay coilovers when I was 16 on my first DSM. DONT DO IT!! They almost destroyed my car they were so weak they started to sag and almost just broke and dumped my car on the frame ....but if i were you id slowly just start pulling interior out and taking notes on pieces you need to replace since you want to do interior first. I mean youll never really know what all the problems are until you start pulling it apart....is yours a auto or 5 sp?

Your profile says GS-T, do you have just a GS with a non-turbo engine? I would start with getting the tranny rebuilt, just to get it drivable again. Then I would perform all maintenance on the car. Then (personally) I would take care of the cosmetics. Get the interior all cleaned up and replace any broken/missing peices, then take care of the interior. Fix dents, replace rusted pieces as necessary, then paint.

A gs is the best of the NA submodels, but if your looking for speed, even a little, a GST or GSX is the way to go. I'm getting a GSX as soon as I get back to cali. Being a non turbo owner myself, its almost pointless to dump money into a car that won't get near the whp of one with a turbo. Just my opinion. Good luck , and when you do start building, you should do a build journal so we can keep up.

I just noticed this after I posted, but in your first post you said u have a 95 gs, on your profile it says you have a
GST. Which one is it ?

In my personal opinion... No... A GS really isn't worth the money to invest in if you're looking to go fast at all. Not trying to start and argument and not saying that there aren't some fast 420a's out there.. However, the 4g63 platform is much easier to gain power out of, and would be cheaper in the long run. Then you have the choice at whether you want to get another FWD or move onto the AWD platform. I personally would pick up an AWD to start a project with so you don't run into traction problems later down the road, and even a 16g DSM would feel quick for you (in comparison to your g35).

So all in all, it's really up to you. If you have a personal connection to the GS then go for it, however if you don't have any sort of connection like that then go pick up a GST or a GSX with a 4g63 and mod that. Of course this is all mjy personal opinion, good luck with what you choose!

MY BAD. i meant inside as in the engine, suspension, tranny, and all those things, not the interior. sorry for not specifying. its an automatic transmission, but i want to get like a sportronics tranny. is that even possible? LOL
and its a GS non turbo. but they didnt have that option LOL. so which coilovers should i get? and how much do they go for? i bought these for like $80, so im assuming theyre prob shit. LOL
thanks guys

Untill you get the transmission and engine right I wouldnt worry about anything else. What good is a car that you can drive.

Coilovers for $80.00, I would guess there isnt much to them. Thats less than the price for one good coil over.

Thats definately the order i would go in then. I had a talon esi and you can make decent power with the 420A but its expensive. On 17 psi mine put 290whp down i mostly ran 25 psi but sold it before i dynoed it at that. Id say roughly it put down 330whp at 25psi. It started out automatic but they wont handle that much power and had to swap to a manual trans to make it hold.

My solution...sell it and slap a turbo on the g35.:hellyeah:

it does hold sentimental value to me LOL
well if that's the case then i think i might just got this way. G35= SPEEED ECLIPSE GS= LOOKS/STYLE
what do u guys think.? i love the curves on eclipses 95-99 and i think they r beautiful when done the right way!

Id start with a tranny rebuild first to get that headeache out of the way . Then move on to the motor but make sure you know what your true goal is. Thats the order i did mine because i think getting the trans fixed is moreof a headache then the engine. Then get the little details take care of and you should be good. On coilovers or anything you buy now a days you get what you payed for. If you wanna keep the GS go for it, but the gsx and gst wil get you to your goal alot easier than the GS will. Good luck on your final decision and with your project.

Yea the 2g bodystyle is beautiful. Ill give you this list to show you the work involved just to get the whp i got outta mine.
8.8:1 Je pistons and proseal rings
Eagle esp hbeam rods
BC stage 2 turbo cams
BC valve springs
Hahn portfueler stage 5
Garret t3/t4 super sixty
manual trans swap
posi helical
Fidanza axles
Msd wires
Msd dis2 ignition
snow boost cooler
Apexi avc type r boost controller
Adjustable cam gears(for fine tuning)
Front mount intercooler
aftermarket Throttlebody
Custom 3 inch exhaust with dynomax bullet

Thats most i can think of im sure there is more but its been so long. If you can do all the work yourself like i did its not AS bad but if not labor on that would kill your wallet. I say g35 is your speed demon and the 2g is the looker in my opinion

If it holds sentimental value and you aren't willing to sell it, g35 for speed and gs for looks. But if you can, jump on a gst/gsx. Once you drive one you won't go back to base ;)
