ok i just had my awd tsi towed for a little more than a quarter mile.

I just read a newbe tips thread that said "if you tow awd car, make sure all wheels are off the ground or your gonna have problems".

Oohhhhhhhh, my cars rear wheels were not off the ground when towed, they were rolling and the fronts were jacked up. What could or might have happened in terms of damage? Car was in neutral of course. And was only towed for about a 1/4 mile, no more. I'm worried. can some one please comment on this

thanks steve

Well the easiest thing to get damaged was probably your center diferential. Then the transfer case, or the rear end. But before u get too worried the center differential might have not tried to lock and you might be fine. Hope that helped

Why would it lock? Is it through the tranny ECU? Because I have no engine in car and no battery. So the tranny computer wouldn't be able to get a reading that there was no traction.

Does that make any sense?
Or does it lock mechanically?

its hard on your visious coupling. ive had my car towed acouple times, and to tell you the truth its just not worth taking the risk of not using a flatbed or dollies.
later

btw i think its mechanical

Its all mechanical the only wires that go to your tranny are the reverse sensor and the speed sensor.

This ain't no Subaru (U ar a Bus spelt backward) or Oddy or some other pantywaist AWD "system". It's bolted up and continuos, using viscous couplers. Which are what get killed when you drag the car around like a cavewoman.
