So I got a 92 stealth for 2400, I couldn't pass up the deal. It has full exhaust, down pipe, greddy type s bov, FMIC, FMOC, 15g turbos, the infamous apexi safc tuner, pro comp boost gauge, aem wideband. Looks to be a aftermarket intake manifold on it also. That's all I have found so far.
Like most turbo cars people sell this one was also out of tune, far out. It would pull great up to 4k rpm and then the boost would drop off from 14 and she would break up, I didn't keep on the throttle once she broke up so I don't know where the boost was dropping to or if it was just falling of the chart. When I first started this car (mind you it has been sitting for almost two years untouched) it smoked white smoke out of the exhaust, like a lot. It didn't smell or look like smoke from burning oil so my first assumption was a bad turbo seal causing coolant to burn up. I had to drive it home after the purchase so I got some valve seal renewal oil additive (thinking maybe has dry valve seals) and some fuel treatment for the old gas that was in it oil. I smoked my way to MD from NJ. By the time I got the car home it wasn't smoking anymore. The temp and oil pressure stayed normal but my boost would drop at 4k rpm and them the boost would break up. My coolant and oil levels have not changed and mind you I just went on a 200+mile trip home in her. When I got home I noticed the air filter was dry rotted and fell off the rubber clamp grommet, I noticed that on my rear turbo cold side outlet has peeling rubber exposed so I disassembled it and found a bad seal where my intercooler piping enters the turbo (could explain the boost drop) Everything else seems normal, no oil residue on the turbos (unlike my 4g63t with a 16g) and no lost fluids anywhere.
I'm still unsure about the white smoke. I just started and reved it and saw none. Well maybe a small amount but what seems to me as normal exhaust smoke. I did read somewhere that old gas can make a car smoke, I looked at the outer parts of the turbo seals and they all look pretty new in comparison to everything else on the car. I really don't want to pull these turbos off either because shes crammed in there.
The car has 150k on the body but 6k on rebuilt motor and at some point in its life it has the trans rebuilt and shocks replaced (so I was told)
So basically my question is what you guys think the white smoke was from? Valve seals? Bad tune? Bad gas? Bad turbo seals? Old carbon build up? Also just wanted to share my new badass car I just got
