Just got a 16g. Is this supposed to be ported?

The turbo is completly ported, well, nearly.....My question is: is the flapper hole supposed to be ported? I think it is so I took the housing off but I just want to make sure.
What does porting this hole accomplish anyways?

Porting it makes for a quicker release of unwanted gasses. It can be ported, but only to an extent. There has to be enough area around the flapper to get a solid seal.

yeah, I know that. I don't really want to risk taking off too much. Is porting this really going to make a huge difference since everything alse is ported?
And if I was to port that hole would it have to end up being round or can it resemble a oval shape?

Yes it will make a big difference if you have a 34mm flapper. You can remove a lot of material from there and make a huge difference in reducing boost creep. The best way i can think of to do it is to take some white out, put it on the flapper and close it back to the housing while it's still wet. Then just port out till right before the edge of the white out.

It doesnt need to be ported unless you have a boost creep problem. Install it and see if the boost will hold steady. If not, pull it and port the wg hole. If it does hold steady boost, leave it alone.

I don't really have as much time as you might have. I want to do it right the first time and not go through the strees and hasle of installing the turbo, removing it, and then installing it again.

Evidently, you just dont know. Between my wife, my baby, and 2 full time jobs, Im sure you have more time than me.

Anyways, Its either a s16 or b16g so I dought you are going to have creep problems. The evo 16g does tend to have some creep issues when running a 3"dp and cat back but the smaller variants usually do just fine. I even had a b16 back in the day with 3" dp and cat back and had no creep issues with it. Thats why I said install it and see. Now if you are hell bent on porting it, go right ahead. Usually, the creep issue is because the neck of the turbine doesnt direct the flow into the wg passage properly, not because the wg hole is too small.

But would porting do anything alse besides cure boost creep? Faster spool up perhaps?

It wont affect spool at all, just a remedy for creep.
