Just got a 14b. What should I use to get the oil off and to polish it?

Yeah, as the title sais. I want to take the oil off and while I'm at it I want to polish it as well. Can I use simple gasoline to clean the turbo? What should I use to polish the turbo to give it that extra shine?

well i used this SIMPLE GREEN i found it at home depot like a year ago.. and it took off the grease pretty well. but i wouldnt use gas jsut cause it smells LOL and can be hazards.. i would search for degreasers at a hardware store and see what works best

If you're going to polish it...... Take the housing completely off. You're going to have to wash it real well after you're done since you don't want anything inside the inlets.....

Take a wire wheel to it, it'll clean it up real nice. The thinner the wires, the more fine the polish. Thicker wires, the finish will turn out more coarse

Ok well, along with the title, I pulled off a 14B and was cleaning it. I use a wire brush for the crud and I let it soak in the parts washer I have in my garage, I used an air hose to blow out all the excesses solvent and the carbon and stuff that shoulnd't hurt anything should it? I didn't think that it would but I would rather be safe then sorry...

no that's fine...

if I were you i'd just take some MCCC and spray the shit out of it. then just let it air dry. make sure you prime the turbo before you start your car up though. [pull the MPI fuse off] then crank her a couple times

Brake Parts Cleaner works wonders for getting oil off. I cleaned the cold side of the turbo up while it was on the car with BPC, just stuffed a rag in the inlet. And yeah, use a wire wheel to clean it up, then if you want to go really fancy, get one of those mothers power balls, and some metal polish.

ok, the job is done.
