I bought a 96 talon from a friend it has no motor in it, and I picked up a 4g63t motor from him a little while later but before I put it in I want to do all the work to it that I can if anyone can give me some good ideas or walk me through it that would be great.

If you don't already have the factory service manuals, I highly suggest you get them. They are a great resource for detailed diagrams and explanations. If you search around on the web, you can find bits and pieces of them scattered about or you can order them complete on a CD from places for around $30.

ok so if I keep it at stock and put a bigger turbo on it can I run up to 20psi or more of boost with out hurting the motor or what would should I do to the motor to be at or around 300-400whp.

If I get a service factoty manual would I just ask for the one for the motor or the for the car because my friend could be wrong about it coming out of that same car

well thats kind of my question I have the motor already built, thats the pic of it next to my guestions so would I need to do more to it or would putting a bigger turbo on it be ok

If the motor is already rebuilt then throw the beast in there and call it a day. Why do it over twice? Do you have to run 20psi (can be done on a healthy motor)? Whats the diffrence if you achive your power goals at, oh I don't know, 17 or 18psi? What are you going to use the motor for? Daily or straight track?

you can put whatever turbo you want on the car, but most people will tell you that a bigger turbo should be one of the last mods you do. A bigger turbo now will probably make your car SLOWER. Look into getting a boost controller first and make the most out of the turbo you have. Like absolute said, sounds like you have a lot of research to do

I know I have alot of reseach to do and Im trying to do that the best I can, I have a boost controller for it, and Im using it for mostley every day driving but we have a race track here that we can go to every weekend. thanks for helping me out but the main thing I dont want to do is what u said, have to take it back out to do more mods on it.

If you don't have anything but stock internals, I would not suggest going to 20 psi and expect 400 whp. That sounds more like a plan for a blown engine.

Well the stock motor can handle a good amount of boost, but if you're wanting to run 20 psi or so all the time I would highly recommend a cometic head gasket and arp studs while the motor is out. The most common thing that will happen when running higher boost is a blown head gasket. And for a couple 100 bucks, this will give you some insurance against that problem. Now, alluding to what I said earlier, you will most likely have more mods to do before you can even push 20 lbs, but when you do, you'll want to have a motor that will handle it. good luck

oh yeah, one more thing. I dont know of any turbo that you can expect 400 whp out of at 20 psi......400 whp is a lot more that most people think;)

thanks, I do have a comatic head gasket and arp head studs, Ive been going all over this site looking for mods that need to be done but dont really know where to start

you can make 400 whp on a stock motor (4g63, NOT 420a) but depending on how the car is driven, there's no telling how long the motor will last. If this is a project car with long term goals, you'll probably want to consider upgraded internals (i.e. rods, pistons, crank). With the right parts correctly installed, 400 whp can be an everyday event :thumb:

You can get 400-500 hp out of our stock 4g6X blocks with stock internals, its all in the mods and tuning.

This was my old setup. Stock internals, on 25 psi with a 50 trim, no arp with a metal head gaskit, like i said it is all in your setup and tune

I would probably start with some very extensive research. It sounds like you have a long way to go. Read until your eyes hurt, break for a little bit, then rinse and repeat.

I know you already replied to this earlier, but are you putting a 4g63t in a 96 Talon N/T body? I ask because I'm not entirely clear on this. If so there are going to be quite a few additional issues related to this swap.

Sorry to burst your bubble but no way are you ever going to make power by just putting in a big turbo and upping the boost. That's just asking for trouble. If i were you i would get all the supporting mods done first. To break the 400 hp goal of yours an evo3 16g will do. Then get a set of 650cc injectors along with a walbro 255, afpr, 3" turboback and a good tune. Dont forget to throw in a wideband o2. While you're at it throw in some 264/272 cams in while the heads are off when you replace the head gasket. Good luck

Not to put down the EVO3 16g but if you have a power goal of 400hp I don't think this would be the best turbo for the job.

Maybe not 400 but with porting options and a good tune with correct supporting mods should easily reach high 300's.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I personally just wouldn't use a EVO3 16g if I was going for consistant 400whp. I think it's running at its max by the time it gets there. I like to over-compensate (fuel, turbo etc...), but hey that's just me. I was just voicing an opinion and not a fact. :thumb:

It's cool i agree as well its not the choice of turbo for 400hp+. It all depends on his goals. Im upgrading to a 14b for the meantime while i save for a 50trim. I just want to get away from my pos t25. Cant hold more than 13 psi :beatentodeath:
