Well my battery was dead after sitting there so i charged it up. Im smokin from the engine bay which im guessing is normal due to the new exh manifold and oil and the likes. A little came out of the tailpipe. The one thing that scared me was the car died after idling for a little but i think it was because the battery was not charged enough before we took it off. Is this all normal?

Update the battery dies nonstop..its at zero. When we take the jumpers off the car cant stay alive on its own. Were gonna try a battery charger and if that doesnt work a new battery. Any other things it could be?

I may be wrong here but once the car is running the alternator should be able to keep it running even though the battery is dead.

Example I have had a dead battery and borrowed a friends to get the car started and then took the battery out long enough to swap my battery back in and the car stayed running during the whole process even when there was no battery in the car.

Did you blow your previous turbo such that it was blowing massive amounts of blue smoke? If so, there's probably oil still in the exhaust from that that's being blown out (mine blew out a few drops in my driveway after my turbo swap) and it will burn some of the oil in there, too, so you may see some smoke initially coming out the tail pipe. Keep an eye on your oil level. After you've had it up to temperature and idling for a while, shut it down, check the oil and make a mental note of where it is on the dipstick. Check it often for the first few weeks of running it. Also keep an eye on your parking space when you move the car to go to work/school or to go home for any fresh fluids. I had a bit of a scare with coolant once, but it was just pooled somewhere on the motor or frame from when I pulled the turbo coolant lines, and when I parked on a hill overnight, it dripped out and made a small puddle.

Smoke in the engine bay is normal. If it smells funny (not burning oil), that's probably the anti-seize in the turbo/mani and O2 sensor as well as the PB blaster, coolant, and other stuff you got on the head, mani, etc.

If you have a charger, put the battery on it and get a full charge, then try running the car. Otherwise, jump start it and let the two cars idle together for 5 minutes.

OK...it scared the crap out of me the engine just dying. Is there any other reason why it would just die like that. I mean when the cables were attatched i could sit there for 20 mins easy but as soon as i take them off i die in like 30 seconds.

One more thing i hooked up my fans correctly but i noticed they werent spinnin while i had the car on. Any thoughts?

The fan won't kick on until your coolant temperature hits 210*F.

I don't have any ideas about you car dying except maybe a bad alternator or a shot battery. If your volts drop too much, your ECU can't function, and the car will die, but it would be an unlikely coincidence for your alternator to die right when you do your turbo swap.

As long as nothing big is damaged im happy! :thumb:

It doesnt have anything to do with how my boost controllers hooked up though right?
Because here how i have it hooked up (third to last post on page 2)

I don't think we know if there's a major problem or not. I'd be careful until you figure out the problem. Make sure you have good oil pressure (rev the engine to about 4k rpm and watch the oil pressure raise - my needle is horizontal at full oil pressure).

I don't know if that MBC routing could cause a stall, but you could just disconnect the hose to the WGA and cap the "T" on the BOV->IM - BUT DON'T RUN IT THIS WAY (you have nothing to control boost)!! Just see if it'll idle on its own.

The oil pressure is horizontal. The car just wont stay alive without the jumpers on so im guessing its the battery. I did a boost leak test and no leaks. Ill try the mbc thing after i try the recharged battery....im gonna let if charge over night...ill let u know tomorrow!

IF the car dies when you unhook the batt, or jumper cables then it is a altenator problem. You car should run with no battery in it if the alt. if working. Put a good batt in the car and rev it up a little bit you should see 14.4v check the batt with a volt meter, it should be around 12ish, but when the car is running it should be over 14v. The smoking is probably a normal thing from the recent work done tot he car as long as its not exessive. good luck

edit:
when the car is running on the batt with no cables hooked up do you have 3 light on the dash kida dim? sure sign of an alt prob. Check the plugs on the alt. I had the same thing happen to me when I chaged turbos, turned out the plug wasnt plugged in all the way.

Yea they do dim. What plug wasnt plugged in all the way?

Your alternator is probly bad try a load tester for that and as far as your old turbo blowin yes it is possible that u got some blockage in your exhaust especially if you still have a cat....

Ill try the alt plug, charging the battery, and if both those fail the load tester thing.
Which is..........?

Load tester it is sometimes used to load test batteries to see if they are good. You can get 12v but if you put a load on it then what will you get? neways most load testers are also made to test the charging system on a 12v sys. You can probly find them at an auto parts store and almost any auto shop will have one. Usually it is about 12" by 6" and will have to battery jumper leads, a analog meter and load switch. You wont miss it when you see it! Good luck.

Update:

I went out this morning and turned it on and it was fine. I took it for a drive and everything seemed fine. Then i noticed my battery light and brake light were coming on in red. What does this mean. I only drove the car for 5 mins but it drove fine. Then when i turned the car off it made a slight horn noise...LOL...i have no idea what that was. So other than that everything was fine. Im nervous to drive it but when i did everything felt good. Anyone know what could cause the red brake and battery lights to come on while driving?

Your battery might be holding a charge, but the alternator wasn't charging it, so it started to drain as you drove it. That's my guess.

So you think its the alternator?

Seems like alternator to me. Do those dummy lights illuminate brighter depending on the revs? If so, it is becoming more likely to be an alternator issue. You check the voltage of your battery with the car off then running>?

Im gonna check that right now. Im thinkin its the alternator because ive never experience the weird lights and stuff when my battery was dying. Are there any online vendors that sell them new?

Well just took it for another short drive and it made another quiet honk...which is weird...it was when i was shifting. Also the power windows wont work while the cars on. Im nervous to drive it until i find out whats goin on.

Anyone know if this is symptoms to an alternator problem...the honking and lights...and the power windows not working?
