Well my battery was dead after sitting there so i charged it up. Im smokin from the engine bay which im guessing is normal due to the new exh manifold and oil and the likes. A little came out of the tailpipe. The one thing that scared me was the car died after idling for a little but i think it was because the battery was not charged enough before we took it off. Is this all normal?

Update the battery dies nonstop..its at zero. When we take the jumpers off the car cant stay alive on its own. Were gonna try a battery charger and if that doesnt work a new battery. Any other things it could be?

Just take out the alternator and bring it to a autozone or checker and they should test it for free. It will take maybe 2 hours to take it out, get it tested, and put it back in, that way you can be sure if the alternator is the culprit. This sounds to me like your alternator is dying or dead.

Anyone know if this is symptoms to an alternator problem...the honking and lights...and the power windows not working?

Could the honking be compressor surge? I've never heard my turbo surge, so I don't know what it sounds like. Make sure you have your BOV vac lines routed correctly.

From my experience, compressor surge sounds like fluttering.

Well the honking just like a deafened version of when i honk my horn...i have no idea why it did that. The compressor surge sound...hmmm it did make a sound but i wasnt sure what it was.Ill have to check some more. Im gonna drive to autozone and see if theyll check to see if my alternator is dead or not. Then if it is ill get another one.

I don't know what is up with the honking, but when you have dummy lights fade in and out depending on rpms, these lights are the ebrake, batt, and coolant, it is safe to say its an alternator problem. You however mentioned you only had the ebrake and batt. So i'm not sure. Do a search on alternator by subject only and perhaps someone had a similar problem. You will see my thread I started when I had an alternator problem, but doesn't sound like yours. I had my voltage regulator go out.

As for taking an alternator, it does not take 2 hours. Even my first time it took about 30min. This is a 2G btw, I hear it is even easier on the 1g.

I was allowing time for removal, travel to auto store, testing, travel to home, reinstallation, and test.

I'm almost 100 percent sure its your ALT fuse, located right by your air filter, you will need to unscrew it from both sides to lift the fuse out..(i think they are 3 bucks)

If its not this its a problem with your wiring to your alternator or your alternator is pooched.

Check your fuse!

btw your car is now running off the battery, i wouldnt suggest driving it far

I really hope your right. Ill be visiting autozone tomorrow.:thumb:

I bet it's also the alternator fuse. If you didn't disconnect the battery while doing turbo install, it's likely that you created a short. It'll prevent the alternator from charging and a whole lot of other weird stuff such as in cabin electronics not working and the horn going off when you turn on your headlights.

You don't need to wait till tomorrow, just pop the fuse box cover and look through the clear cover to see if the wire is broken

Well i opened up the fuse box and found the little box that said
100A
Alternator
Choke

That was the only one that had to do with the alternator.
Unlike the other fuses this one doesnt just pop out. It and the one next to it were somehow bolted in. So what am i looking for? Theres supposed to be a wire? Could someone explain to me what i should look for?

Yes it should be a blue fuse with 2 prongs if you take it out. It is attached to two wires on either side. You will need a socket to remove the small bolt holding the fuse in and then tug on it to pull it out.

The fuse should have a clear cover on top. From there you can look inside to see if the wire is still intact. If it is broken then replace it.
Also my fuse is not the factory one, I popped mine before.

*edit* now with pictures!

Thanks for the pic...ill go check right now then update.:thumb:

Well i cant get it off because i dont have the tools i need. They're all at my dad's house. Just for later when i do have them what size socket?

It's pretty small, I believe it might be an 8mm

Does it have a window to see if the wire is broken? If you can see that it's not broken, your fuse is probably still good.

AHHHHHH!!! I hit my horn on accident and its stayin on and going crazy....!!!!
Pulled fuse for horn and lights...lights were on too
Well ill go check to see if i can see if the wire is broken.

Does the lights and horn stayin on after accidentally hitting a symptom of a bad alternator or alternator fuse?

UPDATE: The lil wire metal thing is definitley broke. (i can see it thorugh the blue case window) I can tell because the other fuses wires start on one side and go to the front. This one just goes to the middle and is then broken off.

The horn will stay on because the car does not have enough power to turn it off. It will run till the battery's last ounce of strengh. The alt fuse is your problem

So what about that wire? I know how to put a fuse in...LOL....but im not sure about the wire part.

A fuse is a wire that is designed to break (disconnect) when it senses a load higher than its supposed to. The whole blue box can be replaced, that is the fuse. The wire is in the box. Just remove your fuse, take it to the autopart store and find a replacement. Make sure it is the same rating.

Procedure to remove the alternator fuse:
1) Disconnect Battery
2) Take your ... (I believe 8mm) socket and remove the two bolts the fuse is connected to
3) Remove fuse
4) Replace fuse
5) Hook up the wire terminals to the bolt and bolt it back up into the fuse and the fusebox
6) Connect battery

Gotcha thanks for all the help...ill get on it!

instead of worrying about lights and windows and weither or not the horn blows LOL,,,
check the voltage as someone else on here already posted to do..
ith the car not running volt test the battery terminals,, your looking for around the 12+ volt range,,, and with the car running at idle you should have 14+ volts,, if you dont and your connections are good, your alternator needs replaced...
it's realy that simple.

Well i dont have anything to test the alternator..dont want to spend the money until i have too. The alternator fuse is bad so it probably is that. Im not worried about the horn not working...LOL. I hit it on accident and it wouldnt stop. The neighbors were pissed at me. If the alternator fuse doent fix it ill check the alternator itself.

Well i officially hate autozone..LOL. I am going to try Napa hopefully theyll have a fuse. When i called Autozone the guy was like yea theres no such thing as that fuse. I explained it to him and hes like ohhhhhhhh...lemme check. And then of course he didnt have it. Any other places where you think they'd have them?

have you checked with Satan?(mitsu dealer) They might have one for cheap. It is just a fuse afterall. But they are just satan too. But its worth a shot.
