just bought a 94 eclipse having some issues with need some advice.

i just bought a 94 eclipse base a few days ago and its already having some issues, the power steering fluid is leaking, i just replaced the power steering pump and the reservoir hose, but its still leaking, when i leaks its in a straight line from the pump to the a/c compressor and it also gets on the hood latch area

another problem is that my steering belt is shredding, when i turn my wheel i hear a screeching sound then a lil bit of a burnt belt smell, assuming its the steering belt

im also seeing some oil spill out on the valve cover, im assuming its the gasket thats needs to be changed?


need some advice on these issues im having any help is appreciated.

Welcome. First off, are you a 1.8L SOHC, or a 2.0L DOHC motor in your NT?

Replace the pressure hose that runs from the pump to the PS rack - that hose prob has pinhole leaks in it since the rubber compound has prob dried out.

with the shredding belt, I bet the pump is running hard if the fluid level isn't kept up between the marks on the tang under the cap .. why the screeching, for that's metal against metal you're hearing...

Rocker cover gaskets are easy to change, but make sure that the rubber plug on the end of the cover is securely glued in with hi-temp silicone before remounting the cover. otherwise, it will keep leaking.

+1 you should fix all leaks. Clean the crap out of it, then have someone turn the steering wheel with the car on while you look for where the leak is coming from.

Make sure your belts are tight as well.

Id also like to add them pulleys them self go bad i kept hearing a noise and thout my PS pump was bad come to find out it was just the bearings in the pulley were wore out
