Okay. in prep for my turbo installation in a few months, I'm gona start making bimonthly junkyard runs. Since I don't knwo a whole lot, can someone possibly give me a quick general list of stuff to start looking for for the turbo system?
 
550 injectors, the stock sidemount, a rebuildable turbo(maybe get lucky and find a 16g), get all the lines, i think you need a new oil pan(if you dont want to tap into yours), pull all the egr plates off of the 1.8l, cams(if theyre good), ex mani, ic piping, 1g bov
 
I doubt you'll find a turbo kit at the junk yard and for half the price you would pay for one you could just get a turbo motor. You can get a 4g63t for about $1,300, including transmission.
 
Well DSM's arent huge in the racing scene here, though they are around. So I'm hoping maybe some turbo DSM's got thrown in the junkers around here, and no one ever claimed anythigns from them. I mean it's worth a try isn't it?
 
You can try it, where I live turbo DSM's are every where and I've never seen one in the junker and I'm there looking for parts every other month. Try the classifieds I'm sure you'll find some stuff you need there.
 
its worth a try.. but if your junkyards are like they are where i live.. the motor is pulled n sold the day the car arrives..all you can find around here are shell's i mean the strip everyting out from under the hood.. smic, ECU, motor, tranny... EVERYTHING.. LOL

i go to the junkyards all the time.. i have only found 1 DSM that still had a motor.. and it was only ### the owner used NOS.. and ####d something up and cought the whole front of the car on fire.. the head was sittin in the pass seat burnt up bad.. it oculd of been rebuild but it would of takin time n money.. but nothing was worth pullin and throwin on your car. it was ####ed.. the CF hood melted to the top of the VC LOL!! :beatentodeath:
 
Occasionally I can find some good stuff. This past weekend I went and there was a 95 GSX. I searched for stuff I could sell, but really came up with nothing. The block was there, pistons and head gone, but 7 bolt crank and rods were still in it. ECU gone. I just figured I'd find a better one someday. So keep looking!

holy crap dude.. i would of picked up that roll chassie.. thrown a 6bolt in it.. SOLD it or cept it!! wow.. i wish i could crap like that around here.. hell if you even come across a 1g GSX you struck gold!!! hell most junkyards here sell the shell
 
No, the chassis was trash. Plus, it was pretty ricered out. And everything you can think of that was ever in the interior or engine bay was inside the car. People at junkyards around here don't care about stuff. There's just cars that get intentionally trashed. It wouldn't have been worth it. Plus they don't sell whole because they don't want to deal with the title (if they even have it).

Yea if you hit the junk yards every week and go to different ones you will find something. These cars are all over junkyards because a timing belt breaks and the head blows and on the way to the junk yard. Ive found many blown motors from jumped timing in the junk yard.
 
Grab the 450cc injectors.

If you're going with a 14b/16g, grab the water pipe and thermostat so you can run your coolant lines through the turbo.

If you come across a '90 dsm, pull off the external oil cooler and the oil filter housing.

If you pull the ecu, you'll need the wiring harness too. If you plug the turbo ecu into your car, it'll throw a CEL because it can't find the knock sensor.

Don't bother with pulling the fuel pump, just pick up a walbro 190. I can't remember if the n/t fpr is a 1:1 rising rate, but grab that as well, just in case.

If the heat shelds are there, take those too. Your alternator and radiator fans will thank you for it.

Check the part number for the air sensor. You might want to pick that up too, I'm not sure if the n/t and turbo sensors are calibrated differently.

If you haven't done so, read up on the n/t to turbo conversion in the VFAQ as well.
 
i dont run my heat shields on my exhuat mani or 02 housing... i actully gave mine away ### i dont like em. and think the car will stay at cooler temps if it has actual air blowing across them intead of trying to cool down the heat shield first then the headers..just my .02
 
When I bought my car, it had no heat shields on it. I have been looking for some ever since. I don't want them bad enough to pay $45 for a JMFab one, I just want a really cheap, stock-style one.

The heat shield(s) keep underhood temps down quite a bit.
 
i have 2g headers on my 1g.. and im thinking of gettin another heat shield and gettin it pressed n flattened and puttin my teams logo on it. and haveing it painted up.. i think it would look pimp!
