I went to a junkyard today on my way home from work. I figured it was worth a shot finding an EPROM ECU for another Talon I just bought. The first car I walk up to is a 91 turbo Laser. Look inside, still has the ECU in it. Wow, I say to myself. They forgot to pull this one. I pull it out and find this. Yes folks, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. This is a 91 turbo EEPROM ECU with a factory installed ZIF socket. Finally I get some luck. Anyone have any info on it's origin and purpose? I have included links to very high resolution pics if anyone's interested.

pardon my ignorance ... but what is so special about this ecu compared to another eprom? Which junkyard was this at btw?
its got a zif socket

What makes this so special is it's a very rare Mitsubishi development tool. A piece of DSM history. Other than that, it's nothing more than an EPROM ECU. What also makes this special is the fact that I got the ECU, a complete set of mint condition 1g interior panels, two non-cruise control throttle cables, a 90 oil cooler with lines and two pockets full of nuts, bolts, fuses, relays, etc for 80 bucks.. Tell me that's not special! I got it at Southwest Auto Salvage in Joliet. Later,

Jeff

people at the junkyards around here dont even know what a 2g dsm is....all we have is 1g 1.8's.... :notgood:

I just spent the last 72 hrs of my life tring to locate oil cooler lines for a 90.I finally found one at the last junkyard and the 3rd to last car that was there.

Engineering Sample. That's pretty damned weird.

Isn't it also strange that we've never heard a peep out of any of the Normal factory people on here? Have they all been ....eliminated? Napping with the Iacocca?

Pretty cool!
From the label the car it was in should have been a '91 Federal ATX FWD.
The board is one of the '90 style layouts that has been modified for the '91 pinout but it's not the normal '90 DSM EPROM PCB. It would be interesting to run a CARFAX on that car's VIN.

Please let me get a copy of the code on that EPROM sometime.

Steve

I am commin to illanois tomorrow and goin to that junkyard, all the junkyards around m either have like 3 firstgens or are full of mud or charge and arm and a leg. WTF!! But good finds man, u made out hardcore :thumb:

I went back again today but forgot a pen. I must have looked in 50 cars and couldn't find a pen or pencil. I'll go back soon. I'll make sure to get the VIN. I sold my burner a couple of years ago. I'll borrow one and email you the code that's in there.

Hey since they are somany 1.8's in the area where you guy live, can some one price a manual rack for me. I want to replace my power steeringm set up?
There are quite a few manual racks there. I'm considering one also, but I've never driven a manual steering DSM and don't know if I can tolerate it. I'm probably going back there tomorrow. I'll get a price..

Jeff

A Manual rack :D please Oh please get me one I will pay you i swear. Im not joking and cant find one for the life of me.

Jesus, thats one hell of a nice camera also.

I once bought a 4 bolt rear with axles and cups, big brakes and calipers for around 100 bucks from a junkyard :D You still make me jealous :shhh:
