jumping time

I have a 91 laser 2.0l n/t just did the timing started it,ran it brought it up to temprature and shut it off.Went to start it again and the timing jumped.I brought it up on #1 cylinder and the cam gears are about two teeth off.Any ideas on why it would jump.I have a new auto tensioner in it and a new belt and the balance shaft has been removed.

Timing was set incorrectly...

Might have not taken all the slack off

Did you rotate everything by hand to make sure it re-aligned?

I'm going to go through the whole process again I think I missed something

As DSM PWR said it was more than likely not done properly the first time. Make sure all the slack is out of the belt. and rotate it over by hand to ensure the marks all line up properly before starting it again.

I agree. I did the samething the first time I changed my timing belt.

I did the whole process again and turned it 6 times all the marks lined up and it starts and runs fine.Thanks again

I went out today to try it and the belt had alot of slack and it jumped a tooth.Yesterday it was fine.
