I have a 90 TSI with a gm maf translator v1. Everytime I start the car it idles fine and am able to hit boost once but after that everytime you try to hit boost (and i mean like 3 psi) it falls on its face. I believe it has something to do with the maf translator because after a few seconds of trying to go the translator goes in to "backup mode" and the car runs fine. I have been searching for details about GM maft but i havent found anything useful. I dont have the rpm wire connected for the maft but im told its not needed on the 1Gs. Im wondering if it has something to do with not having a knock sensor? I have only driven it a few times sinec i rebuilt it cause new knock sensors are expensive. Would appreciate any tips/ideas.

I know what the knock sensor does but the only reason I dont think thats it is because it only happens at first start then the car runs fine (hits boost fine). Unless the knock sensor not being there is throwing the MAFt for a loop causing it to go in to backup mode. I have one on the way now.

Thanks for the quick reply

What are you using now? Maybe ill revert it back to stock if this knock sensor doesnt fix anything.

So I put the knock sensor in yesterday. Still does the same thing. I think that maft might be going bad. Im going to pull the maf after work and clean it. Hopefully that does the trick...hopefully

Only yesterday did i actually drive in some kind of wetness. But it does it all the time. Wet or dry.
