most of the skylines that you are seeing on the road was probably brought in by the "motorex" group or affiliates. however, their methods of importing jdm vehicles such as skylines were not legit. the company is no longer in service and the owner is currently awaiting trial. most of the skylines that had been brought over the waters have either been impounded or smashed, owners were not reimbursed. good luck flying or shipping jdm cars over to us.

500? That seems way to cheap to ship a car

why is it illegal?

I'm not totally sure, But i think it just has to do with the safety features. I believe that the glass has to be changed, the foam bumpers etc... Also all the smog crap, But i dont see why you couldn't just take it to a ref after all the other stuff is dealt with.

But back on topic
That evo is beautiful!

safety features of jdm cars only meets the requirements that was expected of them on their land. us soil test their vehicles differently and requires more than what jdm uses. it is not illegal to import vehicles, but be prepaired to spend an "x" amount of cash just to meet us safety requirements. getting a vin for an imported car is easy b/c dmv would give you a dummy vins, which sometimes are given to vehicles without vin numbers.

Yeah in Canada we are pretty lucky I guess when it comes to importing cars, since any car over 15 years old can be legally registered, or something like that. Still has to pass a road worthiness inspection however I believe. Now in Montreal, R32 skyline gt-s and gt-r are more common then hondas. I don't know what the policy for imported cars in the US is, but from what I've read here it seems like it is definitely tougher then in Canada to register imported cars.

i love the evo 3's i know of a guy who built one out of a mirage(sp) i think they are one of the best looking dsm's ever

Kaizo, But who wants to ship a car in pieces, Rebuild it, and then count it as a kit car, Plenty of Honda Integras and CTR's are here in Cali, a lot of them legally registered and all, I can personally say I went to HIN with a Ek9 RHD from Japan that was legalized and all, even with the jdm motor......

if JDMS wheren't legal to be imported here then your mom's an alien hugh ;p nawwww you see Skyline's here so duhhhhh jdm's can come here they just have to be regulated into american safety standards but who says we have to listen ;p

I don't live in the states, so how would i know??

Everyone and their uncle are importing jdms here.. i did too..and i just drove over a jdm mkiv supra from England yesterday

drove pretty legally in england .. but after touching european mainland, we stopped and flipped the front lisence plate up.. flew through belgium and luxemborg at 120 mph :thumb:

They have VINS . 4 letters followed by 7 numbers

Many JDMs have 13 digit VINS , Some do however have 17 digit ones

(after registering em here, the cars with 13 digits usually get 4 zeros added to the vin anyway)

Strange because i'm looking at my Registration right now and it's definatly has 11 digits and the vin on my car matches....

my Toyota Aristo TT def has 13--> jzs147-0051813

yours should be CPA9x-xxxxxxxx

Well I live in California... maybe I should have been on craigslist Japan instead of craigslist California!!!!
But for real, pj91gsx is right, you have to pay to get it to where they ship from in Japan, then pay to get it from where it shows up to your door... the $500 will be just be part of your larger final shipping cost.
