Meet Mr. Jackson. Well, without video consent you'll just be meeting his ride.
This is a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, currently owned by Jackson. The exact location is withheld for confidentiality, however anyone interested in purchasing the vehicle is welcome to text, call or private message me. Assuming I don't move forward myself.
I've spent the last few years passing by this vehicle. Seeing it in the weeds from the other side of the fence. As the weeds became bushes, and suffering the loss of my last 2g, I worked up the audacity to stop and inquire about the vehicle.
I was warmly welcomed into the business by Jackson. After a quick conversation, he agreed to open the gate and let me have a look. He was more than happy with me taking photos and notes, but wasn't very comfortable being on video. I respected his rights and feelings, so we will have a photograph and text article written.
He brought the keys out so I could have a thorough look. It's been sitting a while, and has over 200k miles. However we've saved many DSM's in far worse shape.
Ah, the good Ole white gauge cluster. You don't see too many of these anymore. The rarity compared to standard black is debatable, however all the DSM's I've saved were black optioned. I had questions to whether or not the car was 5 speed swapped. Jackson says it's a factory 5 speed model, so I can assume it was cluster swapped given the 8k reading instead of 9k.
Under the hood, we of course see a 420A. The rubber hoses have been eaten by dry rot or pests, or a combination. The key focuses are the aftermarket fuel pressure gauge and full threaded valve cover bolts. Not much else has been cut or abused.
As is typical with the GS models, we have a split/folding rear seat. Great for practicality and rarely optioned on the RS models.
Ah, the stereotypical aluminum tow hook. Would it even be a vintage tuner without one?
Some quotes from the owner:
"I've gotten out of the DSM game these days"
"This car needs care and love, but not from me"
"I just don't have time anymore"
"I used to daily drive it, but now it sits"
"I pass by it every day wondering what will happen"
Things we've all said or heard before. What will be the fate of this car? Will I buy it, or will one of you? So many questions to be answered, and some that have already with no ultimate resolution.
Jackson said he WAS looking for $1,500 for the ride, but is now open to offers given the scenario. Dead battery, flattened tires and likely crystallized fuel. I look forward to the day of restoration for this ride. Wheter it be me or another entity.
I appreciate your time to read and give attention to this post. I chase these cars locally and love to share them if I'm able to. Reach out if you're interested in the purchase of this vehicle. Or at least follow along if I personally purchase it to put it back on the road. Until next time,
