If you don't know (or don't feel like looking).. I have a 1991 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo.

I'm having issues running a power cable through the car.

I noticed on the battery side (passenger side) on the firewall there is a nice hole already cut in the firewall... Sealed with a nice rubber boot that has the wiring harness coming out of it. Now I'm thinking.. .what a nice and easy and convenient place to run my power cable....

For the love of god.. I can not get the power cable to run through that hole and into the car. I can reach my hand up and under and feel part of the wiring harness that goes to the hole and outside, as far as my arm goes up into that area from the inside I can only be a few inches a way from the opening.

Does anyone know how to run a power wire through there? (I've tried running fish tape down into the hole.. but it does a 90 left corner and then stop about 7 inches down)

Or is this an impossible way to run the power wire.. and I'm stuck drilling a hole through the firewall?

(I didn't want to go through on the drivers side... because I prefer straight line runs.. battery back...)

the rubber boot your looking at kind of behind the battery (with the harness running through it is fine), but try this

straighten out a wire coat-hanger. from the engine bay side, poke a small hole in the side of the boot, and push slowly until you hit the inner firewall liner. now, from the inside, feel where that hanger is (may need a friend to gently poke with the hanger) and cut the inner liner with a razor blade. poke the hanger though so you can grab it. tightly tape your power wire to the hanger and pull back through the hole, or continue through, depending on which side you tape your wire too

that should do it.

otherwise, if you go behinde the radio column inside, on the firewall directly between the driver/pass footwells, there is room to drill a hole there, just make sure you use a grommet after drilling your hole

LOL man i wasnt so patient with mine, you should see my crazy run job for my power wire. ROFL Ok mine runs underneather my passenger side fender and through my passenger side door, under all my carpet and seats and finally makes its resting spot on the amp. ph well it works but i wouldnt recommend my way

i wouldn't reccommend this way either, but i WOULD reccommend you change it soon! i've worked at a stereo shop for the past 6 years, and i've seen my fair share of shorted out car electronics due to the power wire shorting out when the door closes on it. as you know, ECUs are not cheap, neither is having your car electronics rewired becuase your 8ga or 4guage power wire shorted out becuase you skimped on 15 minutes worth of work, and ran it through the door jamb instead.

hopefully you never have that problem, but i hope you take this warning seriously, and rerun your power wire properly through the firewall using a rubber or plastic grommet of some sort. most local shops will even drill the hole and put in a grommet for you for about $25. that's MUCH cheaper than the alternative.

i have yet to have a prob but thanks for the advice, when she comes back from the shop i'll take the time and redo it.

I dont know if its the same for my 95 eclispe, but ill post it anyways!

right above the passenager side floor board, there is a rubber grommet that will host atleast a 4 gauge power wire, just find where it comes out in the engine bay and wahlaa, a power wire thats installed correctly!

Then just run in through the center console to the rear of the car, if amp is installed back there!

Took me 8 hours to find a hole to push the wire through, and only 5 minutes to type this! oh well!

Hope this helps you, and anyone who has a 95 eclipse!!!

for future reference there IS 2x as much room as you need on a 2g in the passenger sill... there is no reason to run a power wire under the center console...

if the 1g is like the 2g you will probably have better luck going inside to enginebay, and you should make a relief cut in the seal on both sides with the knife and wire puller or coat hanger as previously suggested before trying to push the wire thru.

Not that much room for me, because I am 6'5" tall, and leg room sucks for the driver side, passanger side, and even more shitty in the backseat!!! :D

But im sure that I could run it somewhere else, but its the easiest way that I see to run a 4 gauge power wire that will soon be upgraded to a 0 gauge wire!!!

what does that (you being tall and having the seat back) have to do with the door sills and passing a power cable inside them where they can't be pinched or damaged?

I think your best bet would be using a coat hanger and routing your power cable through the grommet that your wiring harness goes through.

wow.. i dont see the funny part in this.,..?

you should of seen how mad i was when i was installing new speakers in my doors. My car didnt originally have them there to begin with so i had to run new wire so i decided that i would run the wire through that little black rubber thing that the window/door lock wires run through. The rest is an angry blur from there..
got it done tho :D

the easiest way for sure is to poke the hole in the firewall material it will drop directly behind the panel under your passenger airbag remove the panel in the passenger floorboard area (under the dash) and run the wire under your door guard and behind your rear panel into your hatch

I just ran mine through the steering column boot, then through the center console, under the carpet and rear seats right into the trunk. Worked perfectly and can't see any wires :)

Wow, how did this thread become so complicated?

Got that wire ran yet?
